The long-running digital music store has ceased operations, with its Instagram account also appearing to have been removed.

no warning, no nothing, just like that... an important piece of history disappears.

Unfortunately it's understandable, though still sad.

I hope the same doesn't happen to other digital music stores.
Perhaps only beatport (mainly now thanks to less competition and the fact that they also offer DJ streaming and other stuff) and bandcamp will survive... other smaller/lesser-known stores will struggle to survive against the streaming offer of other platforms. What do you guys think?

Sad times - i remember buying vinyls from Juno records in the early 2000's.

But,as i said in another thread,for me this is the beginning of the death of the MP3 download,as streaming just comes more and more into it.

Juno Records is still active, only JunoDownload has closed.

The sudden closure with no warning seems very strange though. Reading online, some speculate that technical/security/legal issues forced the site to be taken offline immediately

Juno Download should fix their announcement on the website imo. They should state that Juno Records is still in business. I saw many posts thinking the whole Juno is closing down.

On topic: closing down Juno Download to focus on Juno Records makes sense business-wise, especially with the vinyl revival happening in recent years. They're both retailer and distributor, so more $$$ to make there.

Unless Juno Download had something unique to offer, for example: owning a niche like Traxsource or being artist-first platform like Bandcamp, it would be difficult to steal the (already shrinking) music downloads market share. The effort isn't worth it.

Some data from IFPI:
- Physical releases revenue (16.6%) has surpassed downloads (2.5%).
- Downloads are declining (-5%), while physical releases (+8%) are growing faster than streaming (+7.7%).

I'm not sure how valid the streaming number is since it has a huge fraud problem. Not just from AI generated music, but also artifical plays.

yeah, also worth noting that Juno Download is not affiliated with Juno Records since long time already. The latter sold the digital download side to an american company already in 2013

Ah right...but still,i could buy all the latest Trance releases on vinyl on Juno Records back in the day....its been a long long time since you could do that.
