Lack of Creativity in Sound design

Can trance be re-invented so that there is more focus on creating better sound design rather than pumping out a track because you can? All this preseting does is rob you of creating original content but then after a while, everything begins to sound exactly the same...without any innovation. I think it's down to using too many presets that people can buy and not doing it through experimentation and failing and spending quality time after a track.

I hear the music right now and they are all made from presets and not from original sound design or engineering.

Good thread. One of the reasons I gave up is because I was relying on presets too much and thought it just wasn't good enough. Yea I fiddled with them, was able to change them and whatnot, but then you hear the masters at work and realize it would take years to reach that level.

So yeah, this could be one of the directions in which trance would go. But we have been conditioned in 30 or so years to expect certain sounds, arrangements etc., so it's really hard to even do anything creative within the genre nowadays.

More creative sound design would really open the doors towards some more unusual melodies/riffs/hooks/etc, to different arrangements and whatnot. But even that needs to evolve and not be allowed to get stale. And there's only so much you can do with sounds until it becomes another genre.

To sum it up, more creative sound design should be encouraged, but even that is not a temporary "fix".

When they use loops and ableton and sampling and that's what causes the problem in the first place. Because computers can run loops in infinite fashion, anyone can just mess around with Loops and make a track and become an expert at mashing up. Some mashups are good but then after a while, mashups end up sounding all the same because they use the same clipping/sampling method rather than using original sound design.

What we need is hardware synths which create original sounds in the studio but they are pricey - and the only ones that can afford that are the famous rich producers and I think they know that - that's why they are resorting to sampling and selling their sound packs - because that's where the money is not where the innovation is.
