Kinda crazy that trance already sounded like this back in 2001. It wasn't long before then that it still had the oontz oontz sound.

Not sure i understand what youre saying hehe - this was typical for 2001.
Warning: lots of tracks mentioned. :p

I thought this track sounds like it was made a couple of years later.
Imo 2001 was a transitioning period in which some tracks started sounding "modern" (like this and Flutlicht - Icarus), but many tracks even from a year later still retained the sound design and production quality of late 90s tracks. Think Gouryella - Ligaya (2002), Dee Dee - The One (Green Martian Mix) (2002).
My impression of the "2001 sound" is closer to Oceanlab - Clear Blue Water and Hibernate - Mane Sonitus. They're fine tracks and feel removed from the late 90s/2000 sound like Transa - Transtar, but they don't feel as modern as this A&B track does.

If you have any suggestions for other 2001 tracks that feel just as modern, let me know. I'd love to hear them!

I see what youre saying but sounds and production techniques were moving so fast back then.

Yeah, 2001 was all over the place with respect to that. Some still sounded old, some sounded modern, and some sounded like they were from the future.

Yeah, I was almost certain this was released in 2003. Its something with the production already. Its very sleak and well-rounded. Has this warm sound to it. Wonder if a&b had the best studio or really great engineers/mastering experts or something back in those days. I was checking out Far From In Love from them and its hard to say, but I think this has some elements that you could say sound more like the future imo. But thats more about production/arranging/composing. Didnt Suburban Train sound very sleak aswell? Didnt Armin sound very sleak in 2001/2 aswell with his Perp Dreamer and Rising Star Alias? Maybe this take the cake though. A&B always had really clear-sounding tracks, reminding me of how commercial house tracks sounded in that time period.

Progressive was peaking during this time so that may aswell be a factor.

Pretty great song to open up their compilation. Must be the only Trance 'remix' of a pop song I like, although more a sample than anything.

bump, one of few vocal trancers that still does it.

Love how energetic yet fluid it is when it "drops"...

That's just the same A&B remix (perhaps slightly tweaked). Madonna famously liked their version so much she wanted it for the music video.

This is the 'original':
