Every now and then you'll run into a news article about something that happened to a DJ or artist. Maybe it happened years ago, or maybe it's fairly recent. In any case, the story sticks with you, and you can't help but want to share it with others.

I'll start with a story regarding Marco V.

In early 2008, Marco V was booked for a gig in Damascus, Syria. He would be the first international DJ to play in the country. News of this event spread, and his management and website started receiving death threats unlike they had ever seen.
If you come to Syria, you will never see the light of day again

We are going to hurt you very badly

DJs (and probably anyone mildly famous) are not unfamiliar with death threats. Marco V and his staff wouldn't have blinked an eye if the threats came from someone in Spain or the UK. However, this case was different. Syria was, and still is, an unstable country. The promoter who booked Marco V "offered military escort" for his stay, but after consulting with Dutch and Syrian authorities the gig ended up being cancelled.
Perhaps the threats came from a jaded promoter who was passed over for the promoter that booked Marco V. Or, perhaps the origin of the death threats is more sinister, and there were more foul forces at play. In any case, Marco V and his staff noticed something was off, and I imagine they felt that spider sensation of danger that screams "don't do this." They were potentially staring at one of the most dangerous situations they would ever be. Who knows what would have happened had the gig gone through.

I'm guessing the Deadmau5 vs Marcus Schossow fight was pretty funny.

Marcus did a mocking-song under the alias Deadrat6. Later Deadmau5 and Schossow were booked in the same venue. But Mau5 didn't want to play alongside Schossow, and the latter got rejected from the party. Good old times.

I was there at that Deadmau5, Marcus Schossow gig. It was in my city Oslo. Funny thing is that Deadmau5 didnt drop the bomb before after the club had opened. The club was already full and everyone was waiting for Marcus to start playing and nothing happend. People were starting to get really angry and we waited almost one hour and at some point they were talking about closing the club making people even more angry.

I have two more stories from my country , they are more good memories but still a bit out of the ordinary.

In my country trance is very small, even in the capitol with 700 000 people the trance clubs never survived and went bankrupt. In fact it was so bad that i went to see the awesome lineup of Daniel Kandi, The Blizzard and Lemon & Einar K and only around 15 people showed up. One of the best experiences music wise i ever had though. Also had some semi drama outside after the event finished. Daniel Kandi got really cocky outside and badmouthed blizzard and Lemon & Einar K because he wasnt the headliner and he said he was so much better than them. He got booed by 10 of the 15 people outside because of this and felt problably very shy when he left. Also i remember that me and my friends bought some bottles of champagne and joined Lemon & Einar K's table and sat and talked with them and party with them for over an hour. Two very nice guys and so humble.

Another shocking club experience i had in my birth city Kristiansand. They used to have my countrys biggest festival there but it was more for pop & rock artists. One year they expanded it to the clubs as well with some electronic artists. And they booked Guiseppe Ottaviani. The festival has almost 50 000 people so i thought atleast a few people would come. But no, it was only me, my friend and one other guy who showed up. 3 people lol, totally unheard of.

Oh lord, Deadmau5 attracted drama like a soap opera character. There's a long thread on tranceaddict from back then which is just a flame war between TA regulars and him.

I think he made a few under this alias. In my opinion this one is really relaxing:

Anyone remember the Menno De Jong incident in 2007 I think? He was playing a gig in Poland(Creamfields), and the sound person(who was apparently drunk) tried to fight him. Ill never forget some of the(Early) memes that came out of that one. :p

Its not a bad track but not near Deadmau5:s beats, drums etc.

Huh, I wonder what it's about. 40 years old seems fairly young to write a memoir, but then again some people have led exceptional lives that make reading their memoirs worth it. Like that one Korean-American who suddenly got drafted into the Korean army even though he didn't speak the language.

It's interesting that (goa) trance became big there despite the numerous conflicts. I wonder what it's like to be an Israeli trance fan.
And dang, that sucks for Driftmoon.

Not so much a story, just a funny memory... I would often bump into a DJ in the crowd perhaps on the way to/from the toilets, or just assessing the crowd before they played. Andy Moor was always a funny bloke and can't forget one time in Manchester him telling me he was going to call his next single 'Slippery Fanny' :D
