This was the genre I grew up on, before I properly started my love affair with Trance. I still hold many of the tracks and artists in high regards today, like Breeder, God Within, Sasha, Digweed, Hardkiss, Slacker, Young American Primitive etc. The British and American stuff was really good. And the Europeans too with artists like Van Bellen.

A special genre too short lived in my opinion and whose etymology and sound has been transformed in the year since 2004. Its very hard to know what ‘Progressive House’ means today. It has encapsulated a wide berth of styles now, some still very good, but none entirely as before. I will share some of my favorites from that period (1990-2002), with the hope of discovering more from you in this forum.

Iio - Rapture (Deep Dish remix) [2001] is one of my favorite old prog house / slightly progressive trance tracks:

There's also a dub version, which some of you might enjoy better. Personally I have no preference, though I think Nadia Ali's vocals are nice and probably among the better ones for early 2000s electronic music.

Love the faster prog from the turn of the century (such as that Breeder Remix). This is a good example of that style.

Timetech - Sensuality (Bitmonx Remix) [2002]

And while I love tracks from the 90s as well, it is much harder to differentiate between house, trance and techno, because a lot of tracks are a crossover between those three. So I'm not sure what to post. Take the next two for instance. What are they?

Anasazi is really soft and slow-evolving, so there's the progressive element, the drums and percussion are very soft as well so that's more techno or house, and the melodic elements are really mellow and rich, so I'd say that's trance.

Night On Earth - Anasazi [1996]

Stabilizer is progressive, but in another way. It's really something fresh, for that time. It carries over some of the sounds of its time, like the main synths, but it's gritty, really rhythmic and almost predicts what progressive house(/trance) is gonna sound like in a couple of years.

Tata Box Inhibitors - Stabilizer [1995]

Very boring genre when you are not in right mood, but when you are it is very hypnotizing and all of sudden sound vast and deep.I like Sog records.
Lets try a dig out some good ones. While I like the more "trancy" stuff and atmospheric I also love the kind tunes that are dark, deep and driving that builds momentum. They have some techno influences but still have a groove from house. I associate these kind of tunes with driving late at night in a big city.

One of my favourites. There's so much weight and fullness with the drums. It builds up slowly but surely with the percussion before opening up with a really lovely hands-in-the-air string section.

God Within, Hardkiss, Young American Primitive

[1993]
Really glad ypu noted the Hardkiss Brothers and that scene to kick off this thread. The "San Francisco Rave Scene" really did a great amount of progressive breaks and house at the time and I wish more people recognized its great sound.

Thats some nice suggestions you've all been sharing, some of these I have never heard and I am thoroughly enjoying.

I think you are only part right. Because on the flip side when I would pick up progressive house albums or records when stores would sell these things I would often never know what I would hear when I pressed play. If you think of Northern Exposure opening with Satellite Serenade (Orb Remix) and then ending with Dark Train as a good example. God Within and Young American primitive would be in the old prog-house family but the types of sounds and tracks were a whole mix of style and sounds, not even really 4/4. The records too. It can sometimes be tribal, dark or moody feeling, sometimes sunset feeling, bouncey or Trance-crossover. Dubs and breaks too. It was very exciting to be involved in that scene at the time.

Paul Rogers - Lazy Monday / Possibly one of my most fav. The build up is so smooth.

Quivver - Twist & Shout (2002 Vox) / Production wise, I always admired both Quivver's 2002 & Techdub update. Very rich sounding track.

Hamel & Blackwatch ‎– Discotek / This one grew on me from time to time. Groovy and easy to enjoy.

I don't know much about the 90's, but 2000's prog never sound dated to me. It seems every element of it were carefully picked to serve an idea, instead of just fitting into a genre norm.

One of my all-time favourite tracks. There were many years, where i played this track as last track in the late night or early morning, before leaving to the club...

Funk D'Void - Diabala (Heavenly Remix)

Here some my other favourite tracks of Funk D'Void:

Michel de Hey - Camera (Funk D'Void Remix)

Funk D'Void - Odessa
