I wouldnt associate ATB with Trance anymore, but yeah im surprised how high he is - i take he does a lot of gigs a year worldwide?
He used to do at least two per year in London. Lost track around covid, but yeah I think he is busy touring instead of producing. Might be making more money that way since he is still pretty famous. And not to mention that one big song will make him a hefty sum from streaming.

Same for the guys from Gabriel & Dresden, that why there is nothing new from them for at least one year. They said that touring hasn't left them any time for producing. Also Josh Gabriel had an heart attack. I am so glad that's behind him and he is feeling better and better.

Sad about Gabriel and his heart attack. Im glad hes doing better. To be honest if he is one of those guys touring the world so much it must take a lot out of you. Im sure with my body clock and circadian ( sleep) rhythms my mind/body would likely fail.

ATB is often known for the classic 9pm ( till i come) but assuming its not a crude reference ( and i hope its not) what happened at 9pm. Perhaps it was when he used to start his set at a certain night club. At the time i quite liked the sample synth based guitar sound he used, but a few years later there were synths like yamaha motif that I thought made that sound in 9pm sound weak. It was great he used a guitar sound though.

If I am not mistaken the producers that actually popularised guitar in trance were ATB, Chicane and BT. They were not the first ones to use it, but they got it into mainstream somehow.

Also Andre has a ton of ambient music, but he never plays it at clubs. He definitely plays more mainstream music which I don't see as a bad thing. He was the one who introduced my to one of my favourite songs in the last 10 years:
Deorro - Don't Hold Me Back (Andre used to use it as a opener for years)

To be honest I picture myself like this if I decide to go pro dj, where unlike producing I have a lot more experience and even to this day I spend a ton of time on dj forums trying to learn more and more. I always said that he was the main reason I even got in to djing and eventually producing. And he is a great example you can play mainstream music as a dj and produce whatever you like in your albums.

In the meantime, in the next 50:

110. Shogun
112. Alexander Popov
123. MaRLo

I honestly don't understand how is Shogun still popular, to be very honest.
And I can say pretty much the same for Alexander Popov, what exactly has he done in the last few years that was exactly relevant?
And MaRLo, I just never understood what's the appeal of his music, for me he has always represented too much of what is wrong in the Trance scene in the last decade or so.

Would love to know how many people still participate in this vote, and then what portion of that is just the artists/labels themselves inflating them.

Trancefix Best of 2021 probably had more votes ;)

Todays Marlo yes, Marlo from 4/5 years ago had amazing songs.

Also anyone from Russia, China, Japan and a few more countries gets a ton of votes domestically.

and how many are from bots!
In general, the fanfare around DJs more or less died out around the time of Marshmello. DJs took a huge backseat from the spotlight when pop from all countries of the world got its shit together at the end of 2016

Luminn was also in the top 150, recently had releases on AVA & Subcultute 🙂

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a respectable international top list representing artistic success and quality again?

I always loved following and observing these types of things in the early 2000s, when I first started following electronic. DJ mag was exciting and a valuable source of information. Even MTV had nice contributions like this. What happened? Now it feels like every list became corrupted, irrelevant and poor quality. DJ mag, the Oscar’s, IMDB. There is no authority to turn to anymore for the creative arts, I think that’s a mighty shame and I don’t understand fully why.

Aaaaaah... MONEY?

I used to love watching football, I am still in the Arsenal fan club, but I haven't watched any football for years now. It's not worth it now, I prefer to watch comedy, original content from smaller creators and listen music instead of giving my time and money to make people filthy rich.

Yes it would, but the issue is that there is no representatives that have the authority and audience to put something worth while together. We’re just left with DJ mag who only has relevance based on past fame and the fact no one else exists to compete.

I always preferred lists for tracks anyway, rather than lists for DJing, which itself as an artform today sees better sets by a YouTuber than an actual famed professional.
