The album was very well promoted, I remember reviews everywhere, from Bravo to Dj Mag.

...well... most of the tracks are boring, no great ideas, no sound variety, very predictable, but it don't hurts so much, its not a crappy album.. I still love to play 'Another Way' and 'Face 2 Face (Piano Mix)'.

^There's plenty enough variety in the album...? Way more than most Trance albums I feel. Lots of awesome tracks too and production sounds so nice. Personally love the album and how it all flows together. Nice amount of cheese too.

Pikes is always one I come back to.

hands down my favorite PVD album. The "journey" element it employs by mixing all the tracks together seamlessly together in a coherent narrative without it becoming either boring or too busy I think is what makes it. Starting easy with Vega and Pikes, picking up pass up to Avenue, slowing down and eventually taking a break with Tell me why (album mix) and Together we Will Conquor, to full party mode with Columbia and We're alive.

10/10 brilliant record

Hugely disappointing album, PvD had already been in decline for a couple of years and this sealed the deal. No real variety, the kick and the bass drum are identical in most of the tracks. Very boring production and linear, dull ideas. A lazy effort, maybe he was already using ghost producers at this stage. Was indeed promoted heavily as I remember but the hype never amounted to much.

This was his best sound,following on from his '99 remixes. If you dont like this album,you dont like PvD.

From my view.. it is the same "problem" like with maany, many other artist = his best stuff came out before popularisation/commercialization. I think many of us have the same experience with other electronic or non-electronic musicans.

I really love his early remixes for Humate, Effective Force, Cosmic Baby etc. etc... aand to be really 'extreme': I think this track is much better than the whole album:

So u can have PvD fans, that don't enjoy so much this album, yeah we exist.)

Music is subjective experience. It is just natural we have different opinions and views.

For me Out There And Back (as well as The Politics Of Dancing) represents the peak of PvD and in my books this is one of the finest trance albums. Excellent musical journey and step up from the previous Seven Ways or the following Reflections (which was actually the first trance album I bought back in the days but despite many good tracks, personally I think that album showcased the start of decline).

I can appreciate his mid 90's early stuff - but for me,its a little too simple. I loved it when he brought more energy in 98/99/00....having said that,his 1993 Humate remix is one of the best ever.

I saw PVD a few times around this era and it was a real treat. The tracks from this album would feature heavily and always went down well. I agree the album is a little samey, but what pure Trance album isnt? I struggle to think of one anyway that offers much variation. The baselines are so infectious and it is perfect danceable, high energy, high emotion Trance for the lazer and smoke filled rooms.

Maybe not the best Trance album, but a very very good one.
