2 is the most likely outcome. A free speech social network does not exist because all the previous attempts at creating one have failed. It's not an engineering problem.
All of Elon's ventures so far have been related to engineering and technology. Twitter involves political acumen with all the countries of the world that Elon simply does not have.
correct, then again, do not underestimate someone like musk when it comes to setting up succesfull business models. I think the prescription blue/checkmark move and sacking all the useless staff are two very smart things from a business perspective. keep in mind. A lot of people are addicted by twitter, especially those in the upper echelons of political discourse and power and by charging them to "yell online" he's making twitter a product again, as opposed to you being the product on twitter with all the advertisers etc.

Twitter is dependend on advertisers, for now yes, but we've also seen what happens when you rely on constant commecials/adds in cases like facebook or myspace.

like said i'm cool with either way going down.

I just realized I had never heard AOC speak
I just realized that, despite my disdain for twitter, i'm still being sucked in its drama.

Looks like Musk's super-villian backstory is reaching its completion.

He already has the infrastructure to put a death-ray into orbit, so if he starts building a volcano base we need to start seriously worrying.

it is astonishing to observe how on point the man was with his "dirty tricks campain" tweet.

how quickly he went, from a greencar humanity saving space-iron man.. to a James Bond esq super villian with deathrays in orbit controlled by his volcano base, within one year just for touting/tweeting "the wrong partyline" .

powerfull and succesfull propaganda hardly remained a tool used by government in the 60's it seems😄

I don't think it's necessarily 'touting the wrong party line" per-se.

More the fact that he comes across more and more like a narcissitic weirdo the more you read about him.

The army of 4chan Crypto-freaks that dick-ride his every move don't help matters either tbh.

you don't get to legally be an utter fruitcake and:

- create paypal
- make a profitable electric car company in the US
- make a profitable rocket company
- shoot your own electric car with your own rocket into space

capitalism has spoken, and advertisers want nothing to do with Musk's twitter

edit: also, he was always a weirdo, starting from his failed marriage with Justine Musk to the tweet about the pedophile diver to... so many things about him tbh

Yes you do.

I'm not taking away anything from his achievements. You don't become the richest man who has ever existed by accident after all.
But he is an absolute freak-show of a human being. And that isn't rare amongst the super wealthy.

Maybe you need to be somewhat sociopathic to reach that level within a very cut-throat business world.

Anyone can go nuts regardless of their wealth and accomplishments.
Elon's latest examples of poor business management: 1) requiring the Twitter developers to print out their code for code review and threatening to fire those who have not written enough lines of code (shows how little he actually knows about software development), 2) ending Twitter's WFH (drives away all the experienced developers with options, so the only engineers remaining are those not good enough to jump ship)

If a company bleeds 4 million a day because big pharma (who's heavily intertwined with big government) pulls out then that has nothing to do with capitalism or a sound business model for that matter. It means that twitter was never a "good" company to begin with, the value for these people wasn't in twitter being profitable, the value in twitter was ideological.

Musk defaco bought away their propaganda machine. 😄

Yes you do.
no you don't. absolute fruitcakes end up in mental institutions at the bottom of society, they don't setup and run multible succesful companies

mad genius maybe 😄

so checking which "developers" are useless/ a burden and which aren't is poor business management in your eyes? i'm glad you don't run a company m8, Also, the man coded Paypay in his sparetime, yeah i'm sure he knows nothing about software development.

sorry to say so but all these @ hur dur evil crazy guy terrible person insult" genuinly just come across (to me at least) as incredibly salty 🤷‍♀️

It wasn't just big pharma, though. A bunch of companies pulled out of twitter because they don't want to be associated with an unmoderated space where users freely call other users the n-word (among other racial slurs).

On software development. The people primarily writing lines of code are the junior developers - they're the "grunt" workforce. Your senior devs don't code as much as junior devs, but they are amazing at debugging and system design, and they act as de-facto mentors of junior devs. If you use lines of code as the sole metric of developer productivity, you're going to end up with a bunch of junior devs who don't truly understand how the system works
