Now that the release of the 9th volume of this series is nearing, I decided to start this thread so that people could share their thoughts and experiences that they have had from the past volumes.

Yes, I know that this series never lived up to the standards of ISOS series etc, but I think that there are some fine mixes found in this series as well.

I think up to this date the first volume is still the best one and after that the quality started to deteriorate real fast. The bottom was reached already in Vol.3 with the Bryan Kearney mix which was absolutely horrible and had nothing to do with the idea that Rich had when he started this “Pure” concept. Same goes with the Sneijder mix in vol.5, which is completely unbearable.

My personal favorites are:

Both mixes from Vol.1. Especially the Orkidea one.
Solarstone mix from Vol.4
Forerunners mix from Vol.5
Robert Nickson mix from Vol.6

Having high hopes for the Stoneface & Terminal mix from the upcoming Vol.9.

Please share your thoughts.

Vol 1, We can't fly and Falcons where some of my favo's that year, + it also being the quote on quote kickstarter of the concept.
Vol2, Sentimental reasons mostly it was a kick being featured for the first time on a Pure trance compilation. Plus you can see him taking it one step deeper artistically, by treating individual tracks/melodies with a "retouch" as to make them blend in the mix better, leading to a much better designed mix. presumably something that bled over from the EA compilations.
Vol5. there's just something about that forerunner sound.

Can't comment on Vol 9 yet. Though i'm again honoured to have been featured along with my wife, who provided the vox.

I'm wondering how much a "Retouch" means. Is it just cutting from a complete track. So basically... small arrangement changes.

Or does he work with actual stems, changing sounds (synths), adding layers...?

Both, He does work with the original stems/bounces but (usually) doesn't add or change sounds/synths. What he will do on occasion is mix in stems from other tracks or remixes as to either make transitions more fluid or add a counterpoint or teaser or what have you, into the mix.

Ive still only got round to listening to vol 1! This new one I will give a go though. If any decent uplifting tracks are to be found this year it will probably be in this compilation. Looking forward to it actually.
