The old remixes that were on (or around) the release, don't count for the "list of pointless reworks of classics" imo.

More often than not, those remixes are quite worthy. Reworks from the last decade... well... we all know about those...

But speaking of Breathing, my favorites are Airwave (Rank 1 vs Dutch Force) and Breathing (Breaks Dub).

You forgot the remixes when it was released as "Breathing (Airwave)" in 2003.

That I did. Completely slipped my mind. It's even more so a reason to leave the damn track be.

To be fair, the original question was how many times it's been remixed, not how many times it's been remixed pointlessly. :p Even if the list is in its incomplete form, I think Airwave's been remixed more than enough.

Not like there are no other tracks to remix. Paraglide for example. Though to be fair, I'm kind of afraid of what would come out of your Armadas and Black Holes if they get their hands on this to remix.

Imo it doesn't need to have that many remixes for people to just leave it alone. :p

Official releases haven't been that many, but coupled with the unofficial ones, there's quite a few. If we count both trance and house variants of it, official and unofficial:

- Rank 1 vs Dutch Force Mix (1999) - sure, included on the original release, but technically a different mix so I'd say it counts.
- ATB Mix (2000)
- Junior Vasquez Marathon Airwaves Remix (2000) - really rather strange this one
- Sunset Chillout Mix (2000) - very nice chillout rework
- 21st Century Mix (2014):

- twoloud Remix (2014)
- Giuseppe Ottaviani Remix (2023) - the fact that this is the first (official) remix since 2014 is quite unfortunate

If we're looking at bootlegs and unofficial releases:

- Cykiq's TMT Remix (2000)
- Wrongun! Remix (2008) - no sample for this. The Airwave remix of When Things Go Wrong comes up in search. Not the same track (though still nice).
- Hughes & Ballantine Drop Ur Drawers Rework (2013)
- @Magdelayna Resurrection Mix (2016)
- Johan Gielen Bootleg (2016)
- Inversed Remake (2019)
- Eufeion Remix (2019) - really nice Rave-y kind of remake
- Metta & Glyde Bootleg (2019)
- Jay Flynn Remix (2020)
- Steve Allen Rework (2020)

I'd say it's been remixed enough.

And once again one of my 'unofficial' remixes is one of the most played (686K), much more than 'official' remixes. Just Sayin'. :D

I agree with those two versions as being the best - nothing beats the Rank 1 vs Dutch Force Original, but i did really like what they did with that breaks Dub.

I like how this has turned into an Airwave appreciation thread. For me the best mixes are the ones on the original release.

1. Rank 1 vs Dutch Force
2. Original

It's a record that will forever stay in my memory because it came out in late 1999. That was the first year that I listened to trance. Airwave was like the cherry on top that completed a large cake of fabulous trance released that year.

And funny how after that first year, I've not seen a year since has been even remotely close in terms of quality.

The most magic moment for me about Airwave is when they put it on right at the end of the Gatecrasher Disco-tech CD as a kind of encore - im pretty sure that was the first time a lot of people had heard it. Im not sure when the actual release was, compared to that CD.

The push dub mix has a gorgeous raw authentic dark progressive sound. The breakdown sounds sloppy but everything is top notch.

Do you really want to know?
Well... given that Breathing hasn't been remixed much, and I do have nostaligic feelings for that 2003-summer, I'm curious what he'd make out of it.

But if it's just that same boring remix, but with vocals.......

Ah okay. So this 'Breathing' remix is indeed exactly the same as his 'Airwave' remix:

Open project > put on the a capella from Breathing > render > new remix finished > receive tons of love emojis on facebook > Guiseppe for president.

Very strange - so you didnt like the main melody in the original but you liked it in the remixes?

Yes. The melody is not the problem, it's the rest of the track that doens't seem to fit for some reason. They did it better in their Superstring remix even though i am also not the biggest fan of that one.

I never saw the point of the whole Breathing version. Isn't that also just a vocal on top of the original?

Well, if you ask our parents, they will say it's the same.

But for me they are deffo different in feel. The original is sort of weak. The beats are a bit empty too.

I prefer all the beats in Breathing: clubby kick, lots of cool hihats, the energetic bass, cool FX elements. There's simply more going on in that track. And the lead synth also is a bit stronger compared to the original. It's way more full on clubtrance-ish, rather than the 'flying dreamy trance' original.

Also: in the original, that little side pluck melody misses that one single note.... it goes tudududu..... tú.... tudududu.... tú.... right? But that single tú is missing in the original. (It's in the Dutch Force mix, but not the original). And in Breathing they used the plucky melody including that note. I prefer it with it. Lol.

And I will be one of the very few I guess, but I think that vocal really suits the track well.
