This track sounds horribly mastered that punchy bassline is too loud for me and too empowering. Anyone got a better master of this track? The bassline really sounds muddled up and it makes you feel sick on the inside. It is too loud

Same with Mavi "Azen" mate. Unless you know the original producers I guess it's a lost cause.

Anyone know if 2 Players - Signet (Leama & Moor Remix) was released on anything but vinyl? I think that's the remix.. the one that's 11:30 long. Seems like both Afterglow and Lost Language can't agree on the labelling of 3 or 4 Signet remixes. Can't find the actual 11:30 long one anywhere and don't know if vinyls available on Discogs have the correct track since most of the durations are missing.

Edit: I guess the Smith & Pledger remix too? The real one doesn't seem to exist anywhere. Every Signet release is so fubar. 😟

I think I could get both vinyl in mint condition from a German seller called "Important Records". Will try and give this option a chance.

Sharing files with copyright protected material is not allowed. If a track is not on Beatport, that does not make any difference. Its still not OK to share files.

Edit: See this post.

I presume you mean this one?

I considered it but didn't want to risk the astronomical shipping prices to my country, especially considering it might be the Original Mix if the CD is any indication.

I find it so strange that some labels' discography is only 80% available in digital stores. Are recent Lost Language and Afterglow releases? Sure! Random ones from 2000? Yes, available too. This track? Unfortunately no.

Slightly frustrating for those of us looking for seemingly lost gems.

Sharing files with copyright protected material is not allowed. If a track is not on Beatport, that does not make any difference. Its still not OK to share files.
Naturally. The goal is to figure out if it's available digitally, not "gimme gimme".

Its an awkward grey area though. I also understand some music cant be legally bought, apart from old vinyls.

So I’d like to see what the other mods think of this.

I think the most akward thing comes from Beatport selling the vast majority of Lost Language as lousy VBR hence my proposition to offer to buy actual copies from the actual masters. I don't support such practices and I feel that it's basically stealing the money off people's pockets (especially knowing that Beatport doesn't offer actual refund, just credit). But I'm going off topic I guess.

Not even a vinyl rip (which theorically has more chance to be source from the actual master, vinyl being the purest form of sound) but a deliberately poor copy from 160'ish mp3 sold as WAV for circa 2.50€...
It's not just Beatport, sadly.

Got bitten by this recently too, with a few labels selling Monster Tunes' back catalog: Blue Pie Records and MBop Records. Stay away.

Alright, so I've had a chat with the others to see how we can handle this topic best, and here's what we've come up with:

We will allow filesharing of tracks that cannot be purchased online in digital download stores like Beatport. Obviously, not everybody has a turntable. So for music only available on vinyl we make an exception. We feel like that's fair to the scene, as you don't financially support any artist or label by purchasing a second-hand vinyl. So money can't really be a reason. With this exception everyone can enjoy this (lost) music.

On the other hand, it's still copyright protected material. And massive sharing of these vinyls could devalue a true hidden gem. That would be a shame too. Sometimes exclusivity adds to the value of a product. So to protect both of those asepects, we ask you to only use share-methods that expire after X amount of time. That gives members enough time to get the music, yet it's not a massive publicly wide-available download. To help accomplish this we will remove links after a good amount of time, let's say multiple weeks, to keep the forum a bit more clean.

In addition, we might make this visible only to registered members as well (which means the thread could get its own section!).

Sharing on the internet already devalues them because that feeling is lost during translation and encoding. Seriously nothing beats the real thing. This goes for Mp3 and flac - because they are all gone through heavy processing and refinement which removes the impurities that can only be found in the master files in the studio but because many gotten so used to listening to music on the internet and youtube where it's heavily over compressed and squashed the music doesn't breathe. It sounds cheap. So some of the information is lost forever - it's just that some people's head can't process this. It's basically entropy.
The internet is basically like space where dark matter exists.

It was this forum that allowed me to get some of the rarest pieces/rips of music out there, so despite the fact that file sharing is illegal, I don't think we should outlaw it completely. If it's a very rare vinyl at ridiculous prices, or not available anywhere anymore, and not sold digitally, I think file sharing of those rips should be allowed. Someone not too long ago just shared with me a perfect rip of a rare Brasstooth remix that is no longer for sale, no longer has vinyls available, and was not available digitally, but they had the vinyl so it was the only way of getting it.

Obviously I'm not the one here making decisions, but my suggestions would be:
  • Is it available to purchase online? DO NOT SHARE
  • Is it NOT available to purchase online but the vinyls/CD's are cheap and easily bought? Debatable but maybe NO?
  • Is it NOT available to purchase online, and neither are vinyl's/CDs or they're extremely expensive but a member happens to own them? DO SHARE

I've seen cases of producers DMCA'ing tracks you can't get since like 1999 because they're very rare vinyls and this annoys me to no end. If it's something very rare you can't get anywhere anymore but a TF member happens to own it, I think it can be shared. If it's something that is available for purchasing online then, by all means, don't share it as that would be piracy. If it's not anywhere, you're not pirating anything because the label themselves aren't giving a s*** clearly. There would obviously be edge-cases where, for instance, the label may re-release those very rare tracks, in which case they'd be available online and non-shareable.

It's more or less what we have in mind as well (which really doesn't change much for this thread). I think what you wrote was always the case, even on old TF?
