Re: the Offshore debate. If this is copyright infringement or plagiarism then we're all screwed. Pretty much everything in music and especially electronic music is derivative.
I'm in the curious position of having written a track nearly 25 years ago
(Bass Tarts - Summer In Space) that some have claimed was ripped off by Calvin Harris for
My Way but I'm not rushing to sue him because I think any similarity there is most likely coincidental. If it influenced him then great.
Summer in Space itself also isn't completely unique. It's a bit tongue-in-cheek (5' 42). Lange and I had a laugh making it. There are hints of Three Drives - Greece 2000 which is an absolute classic. No one ever had a problem with it because the main melody and chord progression are very different.
I honestly think Nick B doesn't have a case here especially because of the similarities between Offshore and Tangerine Dream's 'Love on a real train' from the 80s. Offshore almost certainly influenced CH's decision because familiarity is actually an important ingedient in most of the biggest tracks (read KLF 'The manual'). It's a much abused shortcut in making music. Why try to reinvent the wheel? There wasn't really any need for the abusive language from CH though. It's that 'insta culture' that I hate in dance music. Give Nick the respect he deserves. He may not have reached the heights you have but the very fact that you reference his music in your own is testement to his influence!
One thing's for sure. This wont hurt either of them. Offshore is probably climbing the charts as we speak and CH is laughing all the way to the bank as usual. I'm not a fan of much of his music but there's no denying millions are. Anyway, I'll be selling 'It's not the fucking same!' T-shirts (or are those words, in that order, copyrighted?

)
