I agreed the fuck out of that. Was just saying to Narel yesterday about how it feels like people don't write musically expressive riffs anymore, it's more about the mood or the vibe
I'm always dubious about the attitude that "things aren't changing". Do they have to? House music and rock & roll haven't changed much (I don't think they need to) and they're both popular as ever. It's a weird way to criticise a trance track of all things
as someone who has closely followed 'House' and 'Techno' for the last 25 years, I have to disagree with you. both genres have gone through powerful waves. in the early 2010s, 'House' saw a strong -deep dubby analog- wave that dominated clubs and festivals, acting as a counter-movement to the heavily digital and melodic sound of the 2000s. + by the mid-2010s, a distinct 'Lo-fi House' wave emerged, characterized by its raw, unpolished but cheesy sound and, represented by names like 'Mall Grab' and 'DJ Boring'. some of their tracks have even racked up more views on youtube than well-known 'Trance' classisc. currently, now is 'House' scene in a another era where 'Progressive' is the most talked term (hated by many old heads, but loved by youngsters). even more has happened within 'Techno', but I don't have the energy to get into all of that right now.House was exactly the same, as was Trance, Drum & Bass, Jazz, Classical. All modern genres up until around 2010 went through aggressive changes and evolutions in roughly 5 year periods. It was constantly changing and that was the natural way of things before globalization disrupted it all.
