His big prediction? “I have a theory that Nineties trance is going to make a comeback. I think a pop star is going to have a trance hit int he next year.” He’s noticed DJs like Nina Kraviz have been putting more trance records into their sets, which is usually a good indicator of what gets picked up in the mainstream next. And who knows? Lewis may very well be the person to get this trend officially into motion.

I for one cant wait for the shocking amount of shite that will be spilled out with the 'trance' tag.
The fume in this place will be incredible :ROFLMAO:

Number 1 in beatport lol. An absolutely AWFUL adagio for strings. That "fill" before the climax is hilarious. The synthsound is like a toy. This would have been laughed at in 2005.

I also don't get why it was made. We JUST had Ferry's new (bad) take. And now this. Who buys this anyway? I saw The Blizzard post a remix too on facebook. Sigh.

Christ, this sounds like one of the old 'Reason' demo songs from the early 2000's with the Tiesto's Adagio synths slapped on top. :ROFLMAO:

Oh come on the Ferry remix wasn't bad at all.

....That "fill" before the climax is hilarious....

This is just a caricature of trance music, why does beatport allow this to be in the genre, but well, I had a nice laugh, so in that way I enjoyed this track ;)
Your post also made me check the Beatport Trance Top 10, whoops, not the best idea...

I also don't get why it was made.

Simple - guaranteed plays and a high chart position...just cos its Adagio For Strings. Take my chilled version - it has 2.3 million plays and has made me nearly £3K. (shared copyright on that aswell as its classed as a cover track....im surprised a label owns it,as the original Samuel Barber version is 1936)

Btw,this version is terrible..the best thing about is the kick lol. Cant remember where ive heard that kick before - or was it on Music 2000 on the Playstation....

Reading through this thread has been fun.

I think most of us simply miss "the glory days". I could turn on the radio and hear trance. I could go to a record store and buy trance. The community due to the likes of trance.nu, tranceaddict and the fact that it was in vogue was massive.

But the internet meant that record labels could release music, and the bar for entry was set so low (no overheads to press to vinyl/CD, no A&R, no distribution fees) that labels could afford to take a punt on shite music, in the hope that if you fling enough shit at the wall some of it will stick.

It's that simple.

So browsing a record store pondering how on earth I'm going to cull the 20 incredible records I've picked down to an affordable amount became a thing of the past, and I found myself trawling through page, after page, after page of shit on beatport - made worse by the fact that labels suddenly started classifying big room/EDM shit as progressive house, ruining the genre that the likes of sasha/kleinenberg/cattaneo/warren/etc had worked so hard to forge.

I guess I'm just old and, perhaps bitter... But I think that's the wrong word. I still listen to all of the old stuff, and the English language sadly doesn't have a word for how it makes me feel. But the Portuguese language does.

"Saudade"

"Saudade is an emotional state of melancholic or profoundly nostalgic longing for a beloved yet absent something or someone. It is often associated with a repressed understanding that one might never encounter the recipient of longing ever again."

Anyway, I'm still kicking about listening to music I love from artists I'm discovering all the time on soundcloud - the talent is out there, and it's real, and we need to champion it.

Cheers,
Macker

This got me thinking - i only ever bought CDs and physical audio media for about 10 years of my life. And then the digital age came in. That is really sad when you think about it - but at least we lived through it. I feel sorry for the guys who were born after and never experienced it.

Most of my life is based on happy, nostalgic memories of that time - the music, the CDs,the vinyl releases, the clubs...times have changed and that era isnt here anymore but at least we have memories and over 20 years of music to listen to. I still have all my Trance CDs i can always dip into.

This is also probably why i try and keep that older Trance sound in my own productions.

Current trance top 100:
#65 // Hammer House - The Jumper (Mass Medium Remix) (Radio Edit 3:25 long)

This is a club-track from 2000. It was played in January by Ben Malone (who) in an "Armada Next" mix. Apparently, that does the trick? How many people listen to such a mix, and then decide to purchase the radio edit on Beatport? Can't be that many?

I do like the track though, I like this type of clubtrance. Good old Dj Jose vs G-Spott days.

He's one of the General Managers for Armada. He's had a few releases on there and the Enhanced Main Label too, and has a tune out with Farius on Anjuna next week :)

And you couldn't even bother putting some windowframes in there could you?

What a waste this scene has become.
