It looks like the global Trance scene follows the path of the german scene from the millenium times.. too much dull reworks and cover versions of old classics are made.. that killed the scene in the days 2002-2003, many popular Trance producers retreated, many newcomers with shitty sound came to the big game and degraded the Trance name in germany... well blame the major labels

Ive noticed recently that all the guys like Shugz,Wilkinson,Sneijder etc are making big hard 'put a donk on it' reworks of classic vocal tracks - it seems that this is the main thing that the modern Trance crowds wants nowadays. I actually have no desire to go any of these events anymore hehe.

I think its safe to say that the quality quantity of trance classics from 90 - 06 were higher compared from 2010 - 2023 more focus is on house/Big Room/EDM these days. The whole Trouse/Trance2.0 phase was from 2007/2009ish to 2012. But the quality of releases has dramatically reduced. I think that destroys our scene. Not only do they have short shelf life they are not what I would classify as 'classic material' compared to the true classics which received commercial and underground success.

Why cringe? Armin is a big big Star Wars fan and it was aired on May 4th (Star Wars day)
The reason for cringe is that he is dressing up in that ridiculous suit yes I know he is a big star wars fan but I think it makes him look silly.

Reading through this thread has been fun.

I think most of us simply miss "the glory days". I could turn on the radio and hear trance. I could go to a record store and buy trance. The community due to the likes of trance.nu, tranceaddict and the fact that it was in vogue was massive.

But the internet meant that record labels could release music, and the bar for entry was set so low (no overheads to press to vinyl/CD, no A&R, no distribution fees) that labels could afford to take a punt on shite music, in the hope that if you fling enough shit at the wall some of it will stick.

It's that simple.

So browsing a record store pondering how on earth I'm going to cull the 20 incredible records I've picked down to an affordable amount became a thing of the past, and I found myself trawling through page, after page, after page of shit on beatport - made worse by the fact that labels suddenly started classifying big room/EDM shit as progressive house, ruining the genre that the likes of sasha/kleinenberg/cattaneo/warren/etc had worked so hard to forge.

I guess I'm just old and, perhaps bitter... But I think that's the wrong word. I still listen to all of the old stuff, and the English language sadly doesn't have a word for how it makes me feel. But the Portuguese language does.

"Saudade"

"Saudade is an emotional state of melancholic or profoundly nostalgic longing for a beloved yet absent something or someone. It is often associated with a repressed understanding that one might never encounter the recipient of longing ever again."

Anyway, I'm still kicking about listening to music I love from artists I'm discovering all the time on soundcloud - the talent is out there, and it's real, and we need to champion it.

Cheers,
Macker
Well, at least Beatport finally corrected that back in late 2016.

By the way, thanks for mentioning "Saudade", I'm Portuguese myself and it's great to see people mentioning one of our most iconic words. 😊🇵🇹

Yes and no. I think what you mean by Trouse/Trance 2.0. is that kind of Electro-Sidechained-Trance that used to be extremely popular back then with the likes of Cosmic Gate, First State, Myon & Shane 54, Alexander Popov being probably the main producers of that style, eventually what happened is that that whole thing merged with Big Room/Anthem House around 2012 more or less with producers like Arty, Eximinds and ilan Bluestone being the main producers for that kind of music and that's when Trance 2.0. became officially a thing, at least, that's how I see it, and considering that, unfortunately Trouse lasted for way longer than it should have lasted, it's only finally dying out because of mainstream Trance producers taking a lot of inspiration from Peak-Time Techno like pretty much everyone at the moment.

I'm going to an call an early BS on this. Could be wrong ofcourse but this reeks of Amber Heard'esq opertunism to me.

Bit hard to believe that a defacto Grand-dad DJ, way out of his (sexual) prime and with a 0 history on that sort of conduct throughout his decades in the profession all of a sudden decides to go full perv Berlusconi nearing his 60th digit in a known Me-Too cultural bastion like Los Angeles. 🤷‍♂️

that or he's an incredible idiot.

we'll c how it unfolds...
