Slam Duck returns to JOOF with his forward-thinking and revolutionary progressive sound. 'Weightless' is one for the top of your record box. Techtonic stabs grace a rolling bassline, a haunting lead melody brings the track into darkness. With the B-Side 'Fear Of The Unknown', Slam Duck takes us on an even darker journey, with mysterious atmospheres, and harrowing synth work.

Slam Duck is a name for the underground trance history books.

Fail.

First of, the tempo is in this uncomfortable zone at around 130. Second of all, it doesnt build to anything. It stays very monotone somehow. I really dont like progressive tunes that has a pretty decent breakdown then goes back to the exact same boring buildup as before, adding no energy or tension whatsover. I dont mean that it needs a drop like some shitty bigroom or steroid uplifter, but it just fails to build into anything interesting.

Gonna have to agree with you there, they don't go anywhere or do anything. No groove, rawness or heads down drive to be found, but then on the other end of the scale there is no emotion, personality or memorable moment. And yep, no tension or build regardless. So they sit in between both worlds and asks nothing. There's so much potentiall there though... when the track starts the sounds and balance and tone are so damn nice, like the foundation has been laid excellently...now for the rest...

As a progressive-connoisseur, this is absolutely boring. It builds to nothing and the clap+kick+bass has been used to death by now. Unfortunately J00F Recordings have been rather bad the last couple of releases. Now I'm only looking forward to new J00F releases by John himself or Ricky. What a shame.

I will say though, their artwork is amazing

Both sound very similar but Fear of the Unknown is like a chunkier, phatter version of the title track. It's not necessarily supposed to build into anything, it's a kind of track made to pull you along with its bassline and atmosphere. And FOU does that for me, wicked electro bassline and a plethora of dark and atmospheric sounds and effects. The production is crisp and punchy too which keeps the intensity levels up.

Weightless: I really liked the build very groovy and the breakdown Is very nice but the beat becomes repetitive after It, has potential.

Although I have to agree with the night owl and the boss here, both tracks are still somewhat decent. But he's had better IMO, a lot better.

Weightless is good for me, I closed my eyes in the break and felt it. Fear of the Unknown does feel like as is described above, not developing into a musical idea or storyline.
