TF Radio #026 - The Best Of 2025 (Underground) - Hoopoe

Back again motherlovers, this time with a certified banger of a mix by our very own and partially forum-owned Hoopoe! (Not entirely a slave, but close). Instead of writing a made up tale about how amazing and awesome this mix is, I will instead write a true story of my own experience listening to this episode for the first time.

I was lying in the bathtub. Scents ready, candles fired up, my little rubber duck and toy ship just bouncing up and down in the water while I partially submerged, naked and wet. So, I take the remote and press "play" and I promise you all; Listening to this while lying in the hot water was like having sex for the very first time again. Nothing could prepare me for the orgasmic sensation of having my eardrums pounded like this. It was love all over.

Been meaning to hit this one for a while, but been on vaca. Had to sit to work today so I spun this up and, ooooohweeee it's the goods. When I saw the TL a few days ago for the first section, I was thinking 'how are they going to make those tracks work'? So well apparently. I'd never really thought to see how bitter suite would be used outside of an intro, and that was such a cool way to do it, and use the beats to transition seamlessly into such a different style with Sacred Soul. The mix moves through the different sounds of the UG with ease. Mixing was fantastic. A few gems I hadn't heard before. Azzecca - Al's Hot Soup for instance really stood out, as did DJ IP - Lucid Visions. Really got trancey right at the end there, and Green Thumbs was such a cool way to end it. Props @hoopoe, really excellent mix.

Glad to see this going down well ≡:^ I can often let projects drift on for way too long but I was happy to get this done while 2025 is still relatively fresh in the memory. I'll be honest, the first hour is less in my wheelhouse and was pretty difficult to arrange/mix, hence a few edits and a few transitions that needed a couple of attempts. You all chose quite a few tracks that are melodic right from the start/end and thus challenging to mix with sense of flow! And there was the issue of softer beats (Bonna, Mikkel Rev) bumping up against heavier tracks at the same tempo. The second half came together much more easily.

Personally I see another massive year coming, I reckon I could put together another new mix of this length if I checked out my Bandcamp wishlist right now.
