More or less a continuation/off-shot of my trance to chill out to thread, but this thread is focused specifically on modern goa/psytrance with a strong focus on deep, atmospheric sounds and melodies.
Note: this is not a progpsy or full-on psytrance thread.
Artifact303 - Apex [2021]
From the Stars was a great album. Apex was song #1, and it captures exactly the vibe I want from the songs in this thread. Honestly, if you listen to just one song, this would be it - it's genre-defining for me. The other songs in the album are more melodic or more full-on, but I would argue this song is subtle enough to be considered "atmospheric" while still being engaging and driving.
Vanderson - Visions of Tomorrow Live (Bonus Track) [2020]
I've never heard the original, but the live version is amazing. The nice atmospheric breakdown starting in the middle of this track feels like right out of the early to mid 2000s. Truly one of my favorite songs in this style.
EmRysRa - Trance of Light [2024]
Lovely arpeggios and uplifting melody throughout that feels like the trance of old. It's probably the tranciest song in this style.
Micky Noise - Hope [2012]
Little-known atmospheric psy/goa from Joof's psyprog era. This song honestly beats so many songs from that era, lol. Nice melody throughout! Very driving song without feeling too full-on
Moon Beasts - It's Part of the Game [2021]
Atmospheric all throughout. It almost feels like the producer made a psybient track and put a fast-paced trance beat on it.
This is all more or less what I've been listening to recently. These tracks feel like they should be easy to find. I'm 20 tracks in, and each new track in this style takes me roughly ~25-30 tracks or more until I finally find one with the correct atmospheric vibe and melodies. It's a pretty niche sound even within psy/goa. I think it's one of the better sounds from modern-era trance.
Hopefully you all like them!
