Recently an ambient only thread created here. Probably makes sense separating it out. This one will befor psybient, psychill etc only now.

Shulman - First Came The Stars

Shulman - First Came The Stars (Bluetech Remix)

The remix was probably one of the early psybient tracks I listened to when getting into the genre. I remember meeting this Israeli guy in hostel in Laos and he would go on these crazy rants and listenig sprees with these all psychedelic genres and artists I never heard of. Probably hadn't even heard the word psybient before until him. He gave me his broken Ipod that could no longer play tunes, but still worked as a hard drive and I took it home with me and pulled 1000 tracks off and had my mind blown ever since.

I think Sundial Aeon belongs here. I am listening to their new album just now. I was pretty impressed by the previous effort Synthesis, but there are some good stuff in "Regenesis" too.

Compilation from the old guys at Liquid Sound Design label with some Psybient selections. It is a very very cheap offering for a whole nice selection of tracks, including Robert Elster, Blue Tech, The Orb, Gaudi, System 7 and more.

New Carbon Based Lifeforms album!

After my initial listen the other day with the built hype I gave it 7.7/10 when speaking with a friend. Def a return to form for them imo. Will probably land around a 7 after more playthroughs is my guess. How I would describe this album is interlooper styled tracks with a bit of old sync24 tickery with the beats, and some good ol classic cbl ambience woven into it aswell. And a few new surprises here and there. After first listen I only "disliked" one track, maybe had one or two "fillers" and maybe 1 or 2 not-sure-if-i-like-this-or-not songs. But overall I feel its a solid album and def an improvement from derilects which I feel is one of their weaker efforts (still good).

Im gonna go for 7.5/10. Solid album. The title track and Starfish feels like vintage CBL for me, love those two and the final track with the drum & bass rhythm I really rate too. Few other nice ones in there and a couple I will skip (Rymden 3000). Think its a nice varied album that works well as a whole, taking on a nice journey that doesn't feel too predictable.

Album art 5/10.

Starfish

I think after hearing it about 3- 4 times its a slight dissapointment. Their older tracks were just alot more interestingly built. I might even rank Derilects higher than Seeker. Both are at the bottom though, if i had to rank their albums. Far from bad though.

Might give it a 6/10.

A 6.5 out of 10, but some tracks 8/10. I prefer cold and melancholic CBL, too much light and airy in this one. Also dub influence is good but none of that.

Wanted to share this near Halloween but it was locked in an anonymous mixcomp. Psybient/Goabient can be quite dark. Most of this would fall in the goa era, landing in albums in between the banging-typically-night music, creating these full musical journeys. I miss albums that were built like that. I know they still are around, but concept albums seem to be less favored these days. Other tracks in here are from some truly weird experimental albums like the Waterman album, called the Calcutta Gas Chamber. It was constructed from recordings from a power plant IIRC, though its intent was to give the feeling of some horrific places. The Antediluvian Rocking Horse album is another truly weird one, Music for the Odd Occasion. And odd it is lol. Anyway, enjoy the darkness.
