I'll admit, I hesitated a bit because we've already made a few threads for other genres.
Trap has been huge in the past several years, so I think it's worth having a thread dedicated to it.
It comes in several different styles. At times it can feel too commercial or EDM-like, but you can still find a few gems here and there.

From the more "chill" side:

THROVN & Mitchell Martin - Overdose [2020]

TroyBoi - On My Own [2015]

JINCO & Synah - Love is a Miracle [2019]
This one famously appeared in an ad for a gaming chair, and let's say the track itself was as much of a talking point as the chair itself

Relevant Youtube channels:
Trap Nation
Chill Trap
Trap Life
MrSuicideSheep occasionally posts trap music that leans more toward the "chill" side of the genre
Cloudkid uploads electronic music in general, but some of his more famous uploads are trap (like Devil Eyes)

Hip-hop/rap artists have also used trap in their tracks. There are many examples in mainstream music, but one of the best (imo) is more underground: Night Lovell's Dark Light. If you don't mind the swearing, FR3DDY's Night Car Music * Gangster Rap / Trap Bass cruising series on Youtube are really good.

I know trap probably isn't on the radar of the demographic of this forum (it appeals more to a younger, US-centric audience), but if you've ever wanted to check it out this could be a good intro.

Sorry your thread did not take off after a great first post. :pAs you said its kinda huge right now but leaps apart from Trance.

Here's our investigations into Trap and often through some of the younger members who are really into it. The chill stuff is my favorite but most of the time people use Future Bass instead which has a lot more unique and separate style then just being under Trap or being "Chill Trap".

Trap

Twerk
Vaportrap
Hard Trap
Festival Trap
Hybrid Trap
Wave

LOL yeah, thanks for commenting! haha

There's also the "tribal trap" and Clozee (who produces like a hybrid of trap/glitch hop). In fact, this playlist is what got me into trap in the first place:

Still one of the best uses of Middle Eastern music imo

After I somewhat fell off the trance scene when it was changing styles from the classic sound to the modern era heard nowadays, I got into going to transformational festivals instead and started listening to a bunch of more bass centric electronic music like the ones posted here, particularly with artists like Clozee, Tipper, Bassnectar, Bleep Bloop. A lot more IDM, glitch, and bass. Lots and lots of bass, haha.

These were more oriented to the hippie, new age, psychedelic scene; festivals like Burning Man, Lightning in A Bottle, Electric Forest, or Shambala in North America. I went to a massive one in 2017 called Symbiosis Gathering in Oregon, USA, where organizers threw a festival on a location that was on a trail of the Solar Eclipse and we were able to watch it happen during the festival. Some house music was there, but the main events were definitely bass music and psy trance. Raja Ram, who is part of Shpongle, was there. Different type of crowd, but a lot of the music was actually quite brilliant. It can have an incredibly anthemic and emotional feel to the music, larger than life, and gives me chills as trance does.

Here's one by Bassnectar that I absolutely love:

Bassnectar & Dorfex Bos - Other Worlds [2017]

I actually got inspired and ended up producing an album with this type of feel, influenced by classic trance and experimented with elements of each to create a sort of hybrid.

Here's a few tracks from that album:

JD - Eternity Focused to One Point [2019]

JD - Circular Infinity [2019]

JD - One Source, Countless Reflections [2019]

While it doesn't have the 4x4 kick drum, bass music can definitely take trance elements and incorporate it into itself, which creates a pretty dope sound that the younger kiddos can like and old school trance folks can also appreciate :)

Anyone that knows more of this underwater vapor trap style?

I think this was a pretty big album in the vapor-community back in the day.

Do you refer to stuff like Shpongle as bass music? I had a friend from LA and he kept calling all the mid-tempo/downtempo psy acts as this, aka psybient/psychill. Is that how it's classified in North America? Is Bass Music even a genre? I don't think Tipper uses that term, even Bassnectar on discogs is dubstep/breaks/downtempo.

Your friend is right. Shpongle is considered to be psybient or psytrance, but honestly, I would say that around this spectrum of electronic music blends with a lot of other genres. Listening back to Shpongle's album "Tales of The Inexpressable," they incorporate a lot of genres together like world music, psytrance, and downtempo.

I heard the term "bass music" within the festival community, so that's where I'm referencing it from. For me, it's just really an all-encompassing genre of electronic music with the bass or low frequency as the main attraction.
