Recently I've been using Spotify to listen to music, esp. while driving. Figured, why not do it for trance?

Since old trance is a bit obscure, it's possible some trance classics are not available on Spotify at all.

The following tracks are not available. Youtube uploads will have to do:

  • Choice - Acid Eiffel [1993]
  • Salt Tank - Eugina [1994], original version. The only version available is I Want to be Free (Club Mix), released in 2001
  • PhD - Summer Storm (Leisure Lounge Edit) [1994], not surprised given that the full unmixed version only appeared on the Internet in late 2017
  • Phobia - Phobia [1991], stretching the definition of "trance" given that it's closer to techno/EBM buuuut it's worth mentioning
  • Etnica - Moon Influence [1995], the entire album The Juggling Alchemists Under the Black Light is missing from Spotify
  • Atlantic Ocean - Waterfall (Original Netherlands mix) [1993]. The only version available is the Original Netherlands Mix 7" Radio Edit, which is 3:21 minutes long. The real original mix is 5:08 minutes long
  • PPK - Resurrection [2001]. Only the steroid 'Planet Perfecto Knights" version is available. I guess I'll have to put Reload (Space Club mix) in its place...
  • Zyon - No Fate (No Fate Mix '93) [1993], the only version available is the Struggle Continuous Mix (misspelled "Continues"), which is slower pased and not as aggressive as the No Fate Mix '93
  • William Orbit - Water from a Vine Leaf (Xylem Flow mix) [1993], only the original and Darren Emerson + Rick Smith remix are available
  • Rabbit in the Moon - Phase 1 - First Contact [1994]
  • Ascension - Someone (Slacker's Rolling and Elevation mixes) [1997], only the original vocal and Space Brothers dub are available
  • Etnica - Spheric Koncept [1995] same as with Moon Influence
  • Way Out West - The Gift [1996], only the 2010 remix and Michael Woods remix are available
  • The Visions of Shiva - How Much Can You Take? [1993], every version is unavailable. In fact, The Visions of Shiva only have one song in the entire platform: L'Esperanza (Hope Will Move Mountains Mix)
  • Ultraviolet - Kites (Fantasy Flite Part One) [1990] tbh I don't recognize this one, guess it must be a very obscure early trance/EBM song
  • Libra pres. Taylor - Anomaly (Calling Your Name) [1996] only the Ferry Corsten and Dim3nsion mixes are available
  • Vernon - Wonderer [1993], in fact Vernon the trance artist is not on Spotify at all
  • Filterheadz - Yimanya [2004], unmixed version is not available
  • Quench - Dreams [1993], only the UMEK and Nicholson's Cathedral versions are available
  • AFX - VBS.Redlof.B [2005]
  • Dynamic Maniax - Calling Middle Earth [1995]
  • Marmion - Schoneberg (Man with no name remix) [1996]. Manwithnoname (how he was set up on Spotify) only has like 3 songs in the whole platform :/
  • 030 Ft. Dr Motte - Midnight in Europe (Stop Over mix) [1993], 030 is not on Spotify
  • James Holen - I Have Put out the Light [2002] fortunately, Horizons and other James Holden tracks are available
  • Transa - Supernova [1999] full version is unavailable. You can listen to the mixed version from Magik. Oddly enough, Enervate, Tenshi, Behind the Sun, and the Prophase X-cabs remix are all available in full length.
  • Aura - Energy Transpose [1995]
  • Blue Minds - Aquapunch [1994]
  • Tiesto & Junkie XL - Obsession [2002], full length version nearly 13 minutes long is unavailable. Only the 9-minutes version is available.
  • Juno - A Force Beyond [1995]
  • Quivver - She Does (Quivver mix) [2000]
  • Lucid - I Can't Help Myself (Lucid Vocal Mix) [1998], only the Kelso, Kenny Hayes, and Lucid vs. Kenny Hayes remix versions are available
  • The Swimmer - Purple Cloud [1999]
  • Moonstruck - Lunar Outback [1998]
  • The Ambush - Sun [1994]
  • Ayla - Ayla [1996] original full-length mix. Only the shorter version from the Nirwana album is available.
  • Sensient - File Not Found [2003] an old prog psy track that doesn't even have an official Discogs release. I think this was given away on the Internet, and someone thought it was a classic.
  • Andain - Beautiful Things (Gabriel & Dresden Unplugged mix) [2003], full unmixed version is not available.
  • Airscape - L'Esperanza [1999], original and Armin van Buuren remixes are not available in full length. Radio versions ok.
  • Cascade - Transcend [1999], original is not available at all. Moonman version is available from a VONYC session recording.
  • Demonic Emotions - Stuck on a Space Trip [1996], not listed as an artist
  • Apoptygma Berzerk - Kathy's Song (Ferry Corsten remix) [2002], only the original version is available.
  • Mono Culture - Free [1998]
  • Utah Saints - Lost Vagueness (Oliver Lieb mix) [2000] full unmixed is not available
  • Micah, Ben Camp, & Mat Leutwyler - Grammar Lesson [2004] neither version is available
  • Juno Reactor - Pistolero (Man with no name remix) [1999], completely unavailable. Fortunately the original full length mix is available, so that will do!
  • Neum - Meet You at the Milk Bar [2003] another obscure song that someone thought it was a trance classic
  • Super8 & Tab - Alba [2004] ?? why is this one missing?
  • Lightforce - Take Your Time [1999]
  • Cold Turkey II - Sunflower (Transa remix) [1999]
  • Slacker - Looky Thing [2002]
  • Quivver - Space Manoeuvres Pt. 3 [2004]
  • Faithless - God is a DJ (Astral Projection mix) [1999]
  • Society London - SPQR [2001], this one makes sense because it was only available as white vinyl and was never released formally. Its sample was never cleared, I think
  • Arrakis - The Spice [1998], only the Silent Breed remix is available
  • Kyau v Albert - Velvet Morning (Club Mix) [2003], Aalto, Super 8 & Tab, and Mirco de Govia remixes are available
  • T-Scanner - Trip to Heaven [1994] old hardcore tiesto production
  • Dream Traveler - Time [1999] such an iconic intro to one of the best trance mixes of all time (Tranceport), yet forgotten in the digital age
  • Lord of Tranz ft. DJ Hoxider - Sanctificium [1999], the only version available is from Tiesto live at Innercity
  • Warrior - If you want me [2002]
  • Fathers of Sound - Water [1998]

(this list will grow as I add more classics to my Spotify playlist)

Conclusion on re-visiting the trance classics: I need to listen to more Etnica, Cydonia, and Caucasuss. Great tracks.

SURPRISINGLY, Blank & Jones' tracks were available in full length. Yay? (given how stingy they are with Youtube uploads). Another song I did not expect to find was Tim Deluxe - Choose Something Like a Star (ft. Ben Onono), since that one is fairly obscure. We never talk about it on trancefix.

Huh, now that you mention it, the PPK - Resurrection single is listed on Spotify, but it's also greyed out for me. It's probably just not available in our countries, but maybe someone from Russia or the UK would be able to access it?
I couldn't play the live version of Acid Eiffel

I think this is a weird topic, as the availability of tracks varies. Sometimes tracks disappear or (re)appear.
yep, last year on Spotify all of the songs of a genre I follow were removed briefly due to a dispute between the main music distributor of the genre and Spotify

I still think it's an interesting topic because it shows you: i) who has been successful at digitizing their music catalogue (especially labels), and ii) who actually has licensing deals with Spotify, the largest music streaming platform globally that isn't Youtube or Tencent.
