TranceFix Radio #002 - Origins by Magdelayna

EP002.png

Welcome to this second episode of TranceFix Radio - this episode it mixed by none other than the UK DJ and tranceproducer Adam Rodziewicz, also known as Magdelayna. Last year he released his artist album Anthology II and he's the man behind one of the most viewed trance remixes on Youtube by Hans Zimmer and this year he decided to help us out, creating a mix for our newly created TranceFix Radio.

He has put together a mix of some of the best known and most beloved trance classics of all time. This is a wonderful mix if you are new into trance and want to discover how it all started or just want to revisit some great classics from the likes of Ferry Corsten, LSG, Push, Paul van Dyk and many more.

As a final touch, here's a quote from the DJ himself:

''I decided to take on a massive challenge and construct this 2 hour journey into some of the true pioneering tracks of the Trance genre, starting from the early 90's and through the following decade - some of the most important and influential Trance records of all time are included in this mix.''

Excellent (y)
Haha looks like a generic paid-for YouTube/Facebook comment.

Anyways, decided to listen to this one once we officially publish it, in order to post my first reaction to it. Gonna take a listen in the following days. Hope everyone enjoys it!

Cheers guys - it was a very enjoyable project to do - the running order is based on the original track's tempo - i wanted to play them how they were produced and i didnt want to pitch some up needlessly. So for example it starts around 130 bpm and ends at around 140 bpm. An i also discovered an absolute classic while doing this.....LSG - Hearts! Cant believe id never heard it before - have a new found love for Lieb now.

Great stuff here, and a great introduction to trance's early history and standout, pioneering (which is a great word to use) trance tracks. Discovered a couple of classics myself, and reminded myself how good others still sound. What's incredible is that you've just scratched the surface here - so many other gems and influential tracks - and if you chose select other tracks instead of these, the idea behind the mix would still hold true, as it does with this tracklist. This is not a criticism, just a reminder of what an astonishing genre we have.

I'd say this is more of a mix for beginners, an introduction course into trance and its early history - which is great in its own way - but it can also be listened to by veterans as well, just as a reminder or a nostalgia fix. There's commercial hits, as well as some overlooked, ahead-of-their-time gems. Personally, I'd prefer a hipster mix of early 90s trance, but that's just because of where my taste is at right now.

A good follow-up to the semi-experimental-ish first episode. Where the first episode showcased electronic music in a broad sense, this one is all about 'trance'. Nicely picked tracks and a mix that fits the concept well. Well done! :)

One error though in the data shown in the video. BBE - 7 Days And One Week is not from 2003, but 1996.

Cheers! Yes i noticed that BBE year hehe - and also i used the 1993 PvD version of Love Stimulation, not his 1998 rework. Great design on the Youtube video though!

I asked Laurent about Ladyblue - he made it in 2002 but it released in 2004. I always though that was a 90's track! I suppose he intended it to sound like that anyway!

It was released on his album, Believe, in 2002, but the official single release was in 2004. Yeah it does sound very 90s just because it's so colourful.
