Is it possible to judge the track after one listening session, is there any justice in it?

there is such a thing as love by first stimulation
but it's a very rare phenomenon, can you judge someone's work on the basis of a first touch?
many songs reveal your face and emotional value after a few times!

I can judge a song based on technical merits right away.

The first listen is the most important for me. If I hear steroid kicks, I'm going to stop and never listen to it again. If the track doesn't sound engaging (ex. it's a modern JOOF production), I will continue listening but I won't hear it a second time.
With music in general, you kinda know if a track is "your" sound or not on the first listen.

Thats a good question! I know that sometimes a track can really hit me with one listen and I know I instantly feel something good from it and want to add it to my playlist. I think it also works the other way too.

When I was younger the instant love feeling would happen more often, and I seemed to be more open about what I'd want to listen to. Now after the years I guess I know what I dont like and if I hear that I will be pretty cut throat

The give it a try approach is happening less and less for me, because there is so much music out there. One click of a button and the algorithm sends me somewhere else. Its a kinda lazy approach now I think about it.

Its possible sure, Its like falling in love..But you have to keep in mind that your emotional (so not technical) perception of pretty much any piece of art is *highly* dependant on the current (mental) state you as a person are in in that moment, as well as the piece's intrinsic qualities.

So your mood will invetably set the qualia. no matter how "objective" you think you are when judging the piece. Thats just a psychological twerk we all share.

I think all of us have some mediocre trance track or "guilty pleasure" of which we can't genuinly and objectivly specify as to why we just like that particular piece over something fairly similar. Most in promptu explanations when pressed will go something along the lines of: well it just has that "feeling" or "soul" or "spirit" or some other vague metaphysical term, and you know what? they're right. It is however very often mistaken for an objective marker. when it is in fact an extremely (specific mental tone-based) personal one.

Now one way to bypass this problem is to ofcouse give all things a second listen, but thats very time consuming and so how do you decide on which specific tracks you hand that privilege to? narrowing things down to a specific time period can help, but even that has its limitations and still govers a huge amount of music.

so, that being said, what consequences does this have for the larger corpus of trance music? well, yes. most of it will go to waste as being genuinly emotionally satisfying for you.

is that unfair to all that hard work being put into all those track? yes. But its the same with love. its not fair, and neither is is meant to be.

I notice how much my mental and emotional state directs me to a given musical genre. There are days when I am not able to listen to anything, but the vast majority of the time it is energetic music, less often it is calm, chill, ambient sounds, but I always appreciate them mainly for the emotional value and the possibility of introducing them to energetic songs. In the future, I will probably be able to say more about the quieter species.

another important thing seems to be youth, It was then that we had some of the most fun and crazy moments in life. Perhaps memories from this period determine our judgments. That's why we like classic sounds? Some artists still remain faithful to the genre, however, the audience's assessment is no longer enthusiastic

Technology has made judging music less fair.

When I grew up I would hear music almost exclusively through CDs at lossless quality, and through decent sound systems.

Today the first point of call is YouTube, SoundCloud, Spotify, where the quality and compression is awful. Then the majority out there are listening to it through overpriced headphones made in China or shitty laptop speakers or portable bluetooth speakers.

Better get the mix down 10/10 because if not you will be exposed when your product is played out

because there is so much music out there. it.
Indeed. This saturation of electronic music has "revolutionize" my selection and procurement of new music time. For me its always a debate of weather should i spend a couple mins on this hot new 2022 trance track or should i just use that precious ear time and listen to Angry planet podcast or give a 1999 trance/techno/house track a try thats hidden out of sight, never did see the light of day which undoubtedly falls into my comfort zone.

Thats also a reason why i joined this community, that you guys, the Trancefixers that help filter and curate all that crap and get a nice thread like this going

I didn't show much in the forum. But there is one issue that will interest all producers. Maybe it would be possible to use the tools available to forum moderators and implement something like a small questionnaire in the music and production section where the user could evaluate each of the key elements of the song:
-creativity
- the sound of samples
-depth etc.
for items such as:
-kick
-sub
-vocal etc.
I'm writing this because we all want the overall effect to be perfect, but it always turns out that it's not that simple ... I can see that a lot of people trying their hand at production lose because of the overall rating of the song, where the elements were full of fantastic elements. it would be nice to know that one of my pieces is cool, i wouldn't focus my attention on everything but work on what i miss. Thanks to such an anonymous survey, maybe more people decided to mark the correct answer without looking into the details much. on the other hand, hate could appear, but knowing the forum is on a high moral level
