Chloé Zhao ‘Blown Away’ by Villeneuve’s ‘Dune,’ but ‘Terrified’ People Won’t See It in Theaters

Imagine not seeing a movie like Dune in theaters on the big screen
Lol I know I have to buy tickets the moment it hits cinema.

Watched 'A Quiet Place' last night. Enjoyable flick, with good acting and simple story, with a lot of tension due to the silent nature of the movie. The design of the creatures was well thought out. 7.5/10

Last week I watched 'Monsters' a B-side type of horror movie, set in Mexico. It wasnt too bad. The main character a little unlikable but the pace was good and the acting not cheap like lots of the B-sides. It was interesting enough. 6/10

I'm a bit less lazy than Kata so I'll provide a short review of a couple of recent movies I've watched. Or maybe I just like movies more?

The Godfather (1972)

I've watched these a couple of times already, and they were always among my favourites. Now, when I've grown a bit, I wouldn't include these among my personal favourites, but they are among some of the best movies overall. I won't really waste much words, we all know how great the first one is.

The Godfather II (1974)

Bit weaker to be honest. I love Vito's story (and the scenery!) that intertwines with the continuation of the first movie, but I'd say it is ever so slightly weaker in every point compared to the first one. Still worth a (re-)watch.

The Godfather III (1990)

The story is great. But the production lacks a lot. It's a bit messy, we don't get drawn in and it's clear the voice recordings don't even match what the characters say on screen. So in result, the acting feels very off (apart from Pacino perhaps) - Sofia Coppola is just trying to look beautiful and seductive all the time! It feels kinda rushed in places. The scene on the stairs near the end of the movie brought me lots of goosebumps - what a performance by Pacino and the squad!

Patton (1970)

Brilliant. Love a movie about a person with a strange and strong personality, and this one doesn't disappoint. It's, as far as I've seen, pretty close to truth, and I wouldn't mind a mini-series of this, with a bit more of everything.

Where Eagles Dare (1968)

One of the best spy films ever! Truly suspenseful, you almost never know who's playing who and what's the actual truth and mission. Everything James Bond should've been (especially regarding espionage). The ending scenes kinda overdo it with action and violence (think James Bond); I never felt it was necessary.

The Battle of Britain (1969)

Was nice. Always loved dogfights and all, and this seemed really well done. Nice story, but it felt like it could've been a mini-series or something.

Never watched the Godfather movies. Not really into gangster movies at all, and can't get my mind set to watch it. I should, you think?

If you want to and/or really love movies in general. Some movies I think just have to be watched, but it's up to you eventually.

I really don't like the whole gangsta' genre, but The Godfather is amazing, definitely recommended

Haha, fuck man, I can't bother writing a review for every single movie.

I will say though; The Green Knight was fantastic. It's slow, fucking weird and at times the story doesn't seem to make any sense (not until later on), but the atmosphere is extremely captivating and the sound-design is flawless. The music is great and Dev Patel is amazing in it. I will say though, it's an A24 movie, which are known to divide audiences and reviewers alike. I gave it an 8, but I can just as easily see a lot of people rating it a 2 or a 3 out of 10.

CODA was a lovely surprise about a girl living with her deaf family and growing up with whatever challenges it creates. Emilia Jones was near perfect in the movie and she actually spent 9 months learning sign language for her role. At times it almost crosses the line into the regular coming-of-age story, but there are enough twists to the fomula to remain fresh and convincing.

Pig is without a doubt Cage's best role in years. He's much more subdued and the story is honestly near perfect. The trailer does make it out to seem like a different movie than what it actually is; It's slow, engaging and very intimate with honest themes and a lovely score.

I have zero hope for The Matrix: Resurrections - the Wachowski's haven't made a good movie for years. Cloud Atlas was not good at all and Jupiter Ascending was pure ass.

You mean ass is bad?

In any case, I don't care much for it either. Matrix 2 and 3 were crap too. Cloud Atlas is one of those films that you watch because they are supposed to be mindblowing and hard to understand so that you feel superior and enlightened.

Atlas Cloud was honestly horrible. Jupiter Ascending is one of the worst sci-fi movies I've ever seen and, as you said, Matrix 2 and 3 were pretty bad as well. I honestly don't understand how people can have much hope for this one.
I do really hope it will be good, of course!

You guys are wrong. I'm pretty sure this one will one of the better "modern" takes and def better than those other wachovski movies.

Its just nice to see keanu as neo again.

Not gonna watch that Matrix trailer as i'm sure it just outlines the entire plot in those 4 minutes, but i'm gonna expect it to be bad, simply because we haven't had a single great blockbuster in what feels like a decade now, dont see that changing with the Wachovskis. As Kata says they have not done anything good since the originals.

I think Matrix 2 and 3 are too hard done by, btw. Some of the scenes in that are the most legendary in blockbuster history. Agent Smith badass. The story still had so many cool idea and elements. It was a let down compared to the first, even my 14 year old self new that at the time, but still so much better than anything weve had in the modern era post Dark Knight. The last battle in ZIon is so epic.

Mixed feelings. Nostalgia big tick, but I'm worried about some of the things in the trailor. Some of the trailor shows scenes which look like a re-hash from scenes in the first 3 films. Maybe that's just a nod to the past. Probably bad to drawn conclusions from it. Will still obviously watch it. Love sci-fi!

Speaking of butchered sci-fi's, looks like Ridley Scott will get his final instalment of his modern Alien trilogy. Surprised he was allowed to after what he did to Covenant? Third time lucky?
