Release date here is 22 October... I'm not particularly super hyped and my expectations are toned down but I'll back to the cinema for this movie after 2 year hiatus.
I have not gone to the cinemas since 2018. The last movie I saw at the Cinemas was Mission Impossible 6 and before that Star Wars back in 2017. My interest for watching movies at the Cinemas has been slowly dying and I am finding myself more immersed into books.

I think I'll go watch No Time To Die once it's out on 7th. My expectations are really low, but hey, it's made for the big screen and I'll just try and sit through it at once.

Cary Joji Fukunaga is a fantastic director, though, so I do have higher hopes for this one than the previous installments

Yeah he is - the only hope I have is because of him. But then again, it's hard not to think of Babs, Wilson et al, the MGM/Eon and the rest having no influence on what the movie is like. It's big, it's expensive, and it needs as much income as it can get (even more so now because of the debt they are in).

I remember previous Bond actors (I think Dalton) mentioning they were essentially in agreement with directors, writers etc. about what Bond movies should be like, but even together they had virtually no influence over that.

Sam Mendes was a good director but Spectre might be the worst Bond movie ever made, a definite 4/10 (generous). I have no hope for the new Bond, no matter who the director is. It's become an international franchise where all they care is cramming in as many dramatic world locations, flashy cars and silly gadgets to make a trailer stylised enough to get enough people into the cinema. There will be 0 story, script and originality... you heard it here first.

Goddamn you Henry. I almost forgot how much I thought it was gonna be crap on every level. Thanks for ruining it for all of us...dick.

But I concur. It was not the worst though - it's watchable, but just as generic as it can be. The spectacle overshadowed the main character, and you can just plug in Dominic Toretto or that other guy from Mission Impossible or whatever, and it doesn't change a thing. I actually thought the Roger Moore-era Bond movies were utter crap, but truth be told, lots of Bond movies were shit too. Only a couple of them stand out, like Casino Royale, or Dr. No, maybe even Dalton's movies because of how edgy they were.

What I absolutely hate is that Bond, as a character, has been brought down to a casual joke or two and a hot makeout scene. He's not an intelligent alcoholic spy anymore, he's basically become a superman. There's no espionage, just killing and escaping bad guys (sometimes at the same time).

It also will try to appear woke and pander to the young. Q is not an old experienced guy anymore, it's a young programmer or whatever. Dench was absolutely great as M, but this shift to a male M and supposedly badass female 00s and w/e just screams wokeness. Bond-Moneypenny banter has been changed and brought down almost completely, Bond-M banter as well. Wit...what's that? There's just nothing nowadays, only some expensive scenes.

@Katadunkass... where is your in depth review of Dune?
Alright, so got to see it pretty late Sunday evening, so I was pretty much dead when I got home, haha.

First of all; THIS is how you build a world WITH THE HELP OF CHARACTERS and not just fucking exposition, thinking the world doesn't matter and everything is about the "now" or the next action-scene. Every single world / place / city had a reason to be there, just like in the book, and I just have to say; Villeneuve is a fucking master at this, it's incredible what he can do with characters. You are never lost as to what their motivation or goal is or what drives them. Their action always have a reason and I love that about his movies.

It really impresses me how he manage to show how absolutely fucking massive some of these ships are, I mean; Holy shit. In Star Wars you never get a feeling as to how big some of those ships actually are, but watching your main protagonist walking next to one of the smallest ships in DUNE and the way he films and directs it somehow manages to completely dwarf the character. This is a movie MADE for the theaters, everything about the scale in it is just soooooo big!

I loved the tempo in it. Some critics say it doesn't have a clear third act, but they must have been completely blind. There are three very different and clear cut acts in DUNE and you are never lost as to where you are or when something takes place. The first half is much slower than the second, but he still manages to make the first hour or so just as interesting as the second and "third".

Some critics also say it's too much worldbuilding and not enough "action" - not action as in explosions, but not enough drive and to that I just have to say; Go back to your Star Wars and Marvel movies filled with copy/paste action and absolutely ZERO worldbuilding. You just can't have a proper connection to your main characters and places if you don't build it up properly.

Now, this movie isn't perfect and it's not his strongest movie, but saying that doesn't make it clear just how fucking impressive Villeneuve is as a filmmaker and director; Saying this isn't his strongest movie is like saying "Well, Bayern Münich isn't the best football club in the world" - perhaps not, but they can still kick 95% of everyone's asses. This movie puts Star Wars to absolute shame when it comes to sci-fi. The only thing missing is a better score, haha. I don't think Zimmer did a bad job at all and I really like the middle eastern influences, but it's just not as memorable as some of his other works. There's not THAT ONE TRACK which, for example, Blade Runner 2049's got (Sea Wall)

But please, everyone, watch this in the theaters; This is why movies are made and why theaters even exist. Not for F9 or some dumb shit like that; THIS is why you should pay for movie tickets and just immerse yourself in the world infront of you.

Kilo Two Bravo/Kajaki: True Story (2014)

Great one, really tense all the way throughout, I think it depicts the hell of war very well. Based on a true story too.

The Servant (1963) ~ 05 out of 10

The first half was fantastic and gripping; however, in the second half, the main protagonist appears to be weaker, which I didn't like. The power struggle should have been looked at more thoroughly and in a more dynamic manner. This would have added a lot more depth and excitement to the film.

Lucky Number Sleven

I remember really liking this when I first watched it. Was probably 21 at the time and with dog shit taste, because it's a really bad movie. Pretty good cast but the story is this replica 'slick gangstar' thriller type movie, that doesnt make sense and with an awful script, and hugely cliche in every way imaginable . Lucy Lu is the only reason I'm giving this 4.7/10, otherwise it would be 3/10.

Wrath of Man (2021)

Holy shit. Don’t know why I took this long to watch this little gem this year. This might be a top 2 Guy Ritchie film, absolutely BRUTAL, gruesome, dark and gritty. Jason Statham is fucking scary in this one and so glad he got to shine in a non-stinker film.

Aaaaand I'm back from Bond. Still haven't had the time to process it fully, so anything I write should be taken with a grain of salt. But I'm gonna say it regardless.

I'm going to try to keep it spoiler-free, but if you don't want to know absolutely anything, don't read this. So here we go...

No Time To Die (2021)

Alright, firstly, the cinema experience. The movie's made for it, and it looks phenomenal on screen. I mean we're in the 21st century now, everything looks almost realistic (if not blown up even more), so that's good I guess.

That's also its bad side. It's not all fights and explosions, but if it's not that then it's tense dialogue. There's no more 'relaxed' scenes, where Bond takes a minute to arrive somewhere, get settled or enjoy the setting. Just lots of tense scenes, one after another. Like trance nowadays. Very little breathing room. They try to fix that with the occasional humorous remark, but it's sitcom-like for the most part. A silly character, or some small banter.

Then there's Bond as a character. Take only his name out of this movie and you're left with what's basically a typical blockbuster - that's another thing that ties together with the character. There's no charm, very little wit, very little extensive knowledge about anything, very little trained effortlessness, savoir-faire... Bond is just an average protagonist. He's trying to save the world of the bigger threat than it was in the previous movie, by trying to defeat the badder villain than he had to face in the last movie. Everything feels bigger and more intense, and they seem like they had to cram in so much action/tense stuff that there's really no place for the character to shine, no place for any emotional development. The movies need action scenes, and they come with a big expense. That said, all the other characters seem to have no impact whatsoever. Bunch of randos as far as I'm concerned. M doesn't have that natural authority and presence anymore - it's always some tension, constant questioning and hard decisions involved. Moneypenny is just a secretary now, there's no more casual flirting involved at all. Q is a programming wiz kid hipster. And so on...

The story is alright, moves ok but it is very overblown.

And for a movie about a spy, there's very little espionage!!!!

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not one of those dudes who thinks Sean Connery is an ideal of Bond and that Bond movies were shit since 1968. Bond movies were generally crap, but the character was fun to watch, if nothing else. Dame Judi Dench was awesome as M. Craig absolutely shone in Casino Royale (which, in my eyes, is the best Bond movie, along with Dr. No). Timothy Dalton's angry Bond sort of worked for me. Le Chiffre was fantastic as an antagonist, absolutely realistic.

And then there's the little things, like fire from hand grenades (I mean come on...), a bit too many bullets flying around and not hitting the good guys. And for a movie with so many bullets, we see no wounds. When someone gets shot, they are almost always far or out of focus. Ratings are a bitch I know, but this is just too much.

What's worse...the production team, writers, directors, owners etc. all know this, and would probably agree.

And now...for the end. Warning: Contains spoilers.

The final act is just as the rest of the movie: action-packed and tense all the way. But the ending is almost as unexpected as it is good. Like, really good. But, it could've been explored a bit more, emotionally.

And as we see his career come to an end here, he's almost a family man instead of what can basically be described as a high-functioning alcoholic (and so on).

I would've also liked a sudden death as well, or something vague.

I really wonder what's gonna happen next with the franchise. Like, is it over? Where does the next Bond come in, after we've seen the beginning and the end of Bond's 007 career (especially under Craig)?

So to conclude, I did enjoy seeing this. It's definitely not the worst movie, and it's fun to watch if you can shut down your analytical brain for almost 3 hours, as I did. And even now I still kind of liked it. But it's definitely not one of the greats.

Getting excited about Dune. Probably will see it in some morning screening with less people because situation with COVID here is really bad.
