Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

The flight scenes are incredible and add like 2 rating points to the movie. Very, very well done. I enjoyed that part very much and is the only reason why I even wanted to watch this in the first place.

The overall story etc. is not that complicated to be honest. It's somehow quite simple, both in its plot and in its Hollywood-blockbusteriness. Not too much of anything and nothing stood out, though I really did not care for the story that much.

So: Like planes and dogfighting? Watch this. Don't? Don't.

Sansho The Bailiff (1954)

A colleague recommended this. It's a typical Japanese movie of the era, with all its quirks and whatnot.

It's a good movie though, but I feel it's one of those where you either have to:
1) really feel it, or
2) have a great cinematographic eye
in order to really appreciate and love it.

So not for everyone, I guess. I certainly didn't fit the criteria from above, so I was not particularly blown away by it.

Charlie Wilson's War (2007)

Interesting, quirky characters, based on real events and makes fun a bit of the American bureaucracy. What's not to like?

It's a bit funny, eventful and interesting throughout. A bit unexplored, yeah, but it sums up the events very well nonetheless. In this style, Pentagon Wars was much much better, but I quite liked this movie as well. The character of Gust Avrakotos was the highlight of the film for me.

Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2
Fucking great. No one could even dream of making such a good movie today. 2 is my fav. Characters and style so good. 8/10

Snowpiercer

Starts well and then tanks hard as it goes on. Everything after the tunnel fight scene (epic) is shite. Doesn't make sense half the time, poor effort. 5.5/10

Batman Begins

Been a while, had very fond memories of this movie. I dont think it was as good as I remembered. The plot with Raz'al'gul actually makes no sense and the fight scenes are very badly done. Backstory is epic though, great idea. Still good movie though with lots to like. I think because this was the first ever super-hero movie that went serious it really took us by surprise back in the day, but in hindsight it has some flaws. 7.2/10

Saving Private Ryan

Fucking classic. The last good war movie that was made and none since have come close. Best opening to a movie ever? Forgot how many familiar actors appeared in this, even VIn Diesel. 8.8/10

Spider Man: No Way Home

Very shit. But when they bring all the three past spidermans together its very jokes. I loved that bit actually and the humor. Other than that its pure crap. 4/10

And even though I agree with you Saving Private Ryan is a fantastic movie, I actually think The Thin Red Line (which came out the same year) is even better (but also way more philosophical and slow and is more about the nature of evil in humanity through war)

The Shining (1980)

REDRUM

Finally got around to it. Gets pretty scary and tense in the first half. Not overly blown away but it's a good movie.

Lawrence of Arabia (1962)

The 4K copy looks stunning. An epic movie.

After visiting Bruges last week, there was only one movie I needed to watch (again).

In Bruges (2008)

McDonagh bros really make great, underrated films, and this one is another one of them, maybe the best. Always love seeing Gleeson. A truly fantastic film.

LotR in 4K. Extended, of course. Literally the only reason I bought a 4K 43" monitor was because of the Trilogy. Watched the first part only yesterday, will continue next week hopefully.

Vice (2018)

Pretty interesting movie, enjoyed it. It does move a bit quickly at times (as it covers an entire career). Would love to see his career and these things explored a bit more, but overall it's a nice movie.

Can you visually notice the difference between bluray (1080p) and 4k?

On a good 4K tv, definitely.

Just be aware that the content must be 4K as well and not just the tv. Lots of content isn’t 4K atm.

I personally find it quite a big step from bluray to 4K. Love the improvement.

Depends on the screen size and distance (from eyes to screen). So for, let's say, a 4k 43" monitor, from 1m you can definitely see the difference (my case). There is a cool little graph with this info, you can look it up.

The absolutely love this film. I remember laughing so hard at multiple scenes in this on my first watch.
“Two manky hookers and a racist dwarf!”

Martin McDonaghs latest one “The Banshees of Inisherin” brings back Farrell and Gleeson. Only recently released and has been getting rave reviews.
Not seen it myself yet, but it looks great!

Unfortunately not in theaters here, a tragedy of humankind. Have to wait for a digital release, and that won't be coming anytime soon.

What's wrong?
The absolute creative bankruptcy of what was once a great Disney is whats wrong.

Make something original and new for once, instead of just casting "insert the current thing for Sosjul Justus " here, and calling it a day
