So I finally watched Midnight Mass and I can certainly say it isa stand-out for horror fans. Liked almost every aspect of it, the main one being the suspense/creepy vibe at the beginning which I think it is the strongest part of the whole series, once you get to piece everything together I think it falls short as there was so much character development that could have been explored a bit more. The end feels rushed due to it being a mini-series but still, a pretty good show with great dialogues, score and performances. 8/10.

One of the highlights this year indeed.

Final Space [Netflix series]

Gimmicky cartoon spacey thing on Netflix. Can't help but like this little gem. As a 38 year old guy, kinda brought me back to my childhood. Also has some great art work in it and some good storytelling. The main guy Gary is a little graining in the first season but it's got a compelling story which they carried for 3 seasons. I was surprised I got into it, as it's not usually my sort of thing. Episodes only 20mins too, so a little time filler during food I found which I then ended up watching all in one go.

Sherpa [2015]

Sherpa (2015) - IMDb

This is an epic watch. From people with too much money wanting to climb the world's highest mountain at the cost of those who carry up their luggage. Moving documentary and very well made.

Added to my list, always love seeing the Himalayas. If there was a docu of people shitting all over Himalayas, I'd still watch that.

The Corner (2000)

Written and made by (mostly) the same people as The Wire, it throws around a couple of similar ideas so you can consider this a precursor of The Wire, which is in fact one of the 2-3 greatest series ever made. In some ways, this is an even grittier and realer look into Baltimore's (and America's) drug problem, but unlike The Wire, this one has a much narrower storyline, and focuses on the addicts. It is based on a true story too.

It chronicles a single corner in Baltimore, and a couple of characters that frequent it. We can see their daily lives, their struggles, their actions, but also, through some amazingly well-written dialogue and monologue, we can hear what they are thinking as well, and read their emotions. The characters are diverse enough to make all of them interesting and a crucial part of the story. The acting is incredible. The violence is scarce but impactful, and in short time you start to feel for some of the characters.

That said, I really thought this had potential for a few more episodes at least, to allow some stories and ideas to develop more and hit harder. I guess they maybe didn't want to deviate from the (true) story, but I would've actually loved that as it would allow the themes to be expanded and more universal.

In any case, I highly recommend it.

I liked it, although maybe the Sherpa were a bit underutilized in the story...in a documentary about them. Would've loved to learn more about them. It's like "they have to carry lots of weight up and down the mountain all night long which is very dangerous", but very little camera footage of that.

Monday's gonna be hectic for me though. A new episode each of SEAL Team and Hammond's Workshop, 2 episodes of the 4th season premiere of Yellowstone, and a brand new episode of the Dexter revival.

The Leftovers (2014)

1C57FCD4-6B42-4986-8804-DCDC92A66004.jpeg

This is one if not the most ambiguous show I’ve ever seen and probably to many others that watched it. But yet it felt like a spiritual ride all along, as bizarre and chaotic as you could possibly imagine but at the same time so relatable that you can’t help but feel emotionally attached to it. Only TV show I could compare it to is Dark but this one goes on a more personal and mystical path that to me felt more cathartic on a profound level. You could go on forever about the meaning and metaphor the show tries to reflect but at the end none of that would neglect the fact that it does it so brilliantly that everyone’s impression would possibly make sense.

To me the show’s main idea is reflecting how everyone should make peace with their own demons inside, no matter the circumstance or crisis they’re in, losses, faith, religion, families, etc., it all comes down to accepting those dilemmas, even if you don’t understand them, don’t try to make sense of things and just move on and feel happy and in peace with yourself. They present you with a crisis and you try incredibly hard to understand it, when that is exactly the point of the show, people get so desperate to find answers of things that are probably not real or don’t really make sense and they all forget about their own identity and life.

It was such an amazing show that I don’t know how it is not talked about much, but I can definitely see a natural disengagement of audience because it never provided an easy storytelling and went far and beyond to illustrate human nature. But to me, this show became an instant classic and a masterpiece. 10/10.

Should pick it up indeed. How's Max Richter his score?

I've rewatched this series plenty of times. Up there as one of the best thought provoking TV shows out there. I didn't want it to end when it did.

I believe it's David lindellof making up for the Lost series spiral of decline.

Just figured out I've been watching SEAL Team a week behind schedule. How that happened I do not know.

The episode was below average.

Young Justice just started season 4, if you haven't watch ityou have 3 seasons to binge and by the time you are done you can binge most of season 4. Worth mentioning the show is the spiritual successor of Justice League/Justice League Unlimited. So in total 9 great seasons of DC animation.

One of my all time favourite shows. Couldn't write a better review myself. Only one of three series' I've rated 10/10 on IMDB

Somewhat in the same boat as you, only my second series I’ve given a raw 10/10, first one being Breaking Bad. It grows more on me the more I think about it, specially when I remember the ending. It’s special. Will re-watch for sure.

I want a film of this .. Neil Blomkamp doing a district 9, return to earth with better aliens take.

I watched this on Netflix thinking it was a series but it's just a collection of short stories.

Yes it's clearly some ideas thrown together and some bits taken from other films but the visuals for a short look brilliant.

THe one thing that annoys me is that his movies are somewhat always dystopian in tone.

What are the other two?
Firefly because I absolutely fucking love everything about that show - EVERYTHING is perfect, but it got cancelled because FOX didn't believe in it. It honestly had potentiel to be one of the best sci-fi series of all time.

The other one is Band of Brothers because.... well.... it's Band of Brothers
