oh yes, Mc Farlane nailed it, and the comedic element is a welcome element aswell.

so: into the first episode of Star trek SNW. and my verdict is:

meh..

Plus points: Anson mount steals the show as Pike, The episode format, toned down blue filter are a welcome change. it feels like Star trek, The pace is decent and not rushed, the world building is beautifull and there are a couple of eastereggs I nerded on: things like "admiral" Robert April, the nodd to Silent Running etc. Also a special nod to Uhura, who comes across as a hell of alot more authentic to the original one then whatever that was on the Kelvin Timeline (though siginficantly hotter) and well...likable. She seems nice. very well cast.

Okish points:
The episode and New Trek in general has become a tribute band to itself. Case in point: The episode centers around a first contact scenario of a lesser developed species, and thats about it. Its what we've seen countless times on *insert Star Trek Series here. Hollywood cannot produce new original material, and Star Trek is no exception. Too bad. Still, nice nostalgia so, not a very big - point. we asked for good'ol days trek. And they gave it, albeit very lazily.

Spock: Spock is played by a guy who could be any vulcan really, but seen as nimoy's shoes are virtually impossible to fill, he's doing a proper job of it aswell as can be expected

Minus points: La'an Noonian singn. I'm getting Rey vibes from her.

The cringe dialogue and utterly unnessesairy sex scene between Spock and his "wife" and last but not least:

Fucking...current..day..politics. 😖😖😖 twice, non the less. Ukraine and "literally worse then 9/11 and Pearl Harbour" Jan 6th :cautious: Yes, Kurzman..This is what people wanted and begged to have included their off-time Escapism television shows. you being fucking CNN at every chance you can squeeze in.

So all in all a 5 and a half out of 10. Barely with the heels over the ditch as far as i'm concerned. Its a huge uptick from the convoluted mess that is Star Trek STD, and Star Trek - Picard to the background. But with a bar that low that still doesn't mean you'll graduate with flying colors.

Still, there seems to a a slight upward curve visible. So out of sheer morbid curiousity I will continue... Still not streaming or buying this though..

Second episode. And well.. solid 7. Though a bit cliche at points...feels like star trek and very few "kurzman cringe" moments.

Ya the fact that Kurtzman is there kinda hurts the whole show. He's sorta learning what works and what doesn't. I've enjoyed the next 6 episodes but just to let you know, i would say episode 8 is the worst of all the episodes so far, but there are some good parts to the episode and some boring ones that sorta didnt work, but overall it's a decent episode. So far the season is pretty good, not as good as classic 90's star trek, but heading in that direction.

cheers for the headsup. i'll be sure to watch that when i'm in a particulary good mood.

just got around to watching 3 and 4 actually and again solid 7, nice. fun episodes. The caracters are such an improvement compared to lets-not-mention-those-too-much.. Hemmer is absolutely brilliant M'benga fill the role as chief physician well (nice to see Jarvis from Dune again), And although i usually don't particulary like this type of Tom paris esq quircky helmsman I find Lt. Erica Ortega not all that annoying in that role actually.. maybe its the cute face.

6 episodes in and i'm fairly sold final verdict will be at the end of the season as there's still plenty to go wrong.

Who continued to watch Stranger Things? Stopped after season 1. Worth picking up again?

1883 (2021)

Yellowstone (prepreprepre)prequel/spin-off. Yet another nice one from Taylor Sheridan. Gets so much better as it goes on, the last 2 episodes are brilliant. Not without its (small) faults, but overall lots to like about this. I do not think Sam Elliott has ever had a better, more fitting role in his career. Great cast, nice acting. Definitely a recommend.

The Boys (Season 3)

This show just keeps getting better and better imo, Homelander might actually be one of the best written villain of all time. The addition of Jensen Ackles could not have been better and it worked brilliantly, every character got some kind of development with some even getting quite the development after being neglected for some time. Ending was a bit underwhelming for the build-up they did but it was all right overall. Yeah can't wait for what's to come, hopefully they keep it up.

Loved this part in the Orville
This is a bit of meh scene for me, but Orville is stellar. I hope we get s4 or a movie.

On the plus side another great Star Trek series is starting s3 - Lower Decks. It is as good as the Orville for me. Probably the best Ster Trek in more modern times, although I had a soft spot for Enterprise too.

I don't like Lower decks, there are too many things happening in the show and it tries very hard to be funny.

Enterprise was really good at least that's cannon and all of the new star treks are horrible even Prodigy.

Lord of the Rings the Ring of Power is out now on Amazon Prime for anyone interested.
Yeah still trying to find the time to take a look. 6.2 rating is not encouraging... And even then, it's IMDb, which usually has higher ratings.

it highly depends on whether or not you actually like Tolkien and/or Tolkiens (original) Lore/work. Since the rings of power director specifically stated he will try and attempt to do the opposite of what Jackson did in his faithfull adaptation.

Yeah a lot of people feel that way about modern Star Trek shows, I don't personally. Times change and people's taste change. Older type Star Trek show wouldn't of even lasted more than a season these days. I am just happy I have some Start Trek because apparently I am never going to see new Farscape episodes/shows and I've been waiting for a new Stargate series for about an decade 🤷‍♂️

At least it's not as bad as the J J movies...

You could still make a modern Star Trek show now thats like the 90's shows and it would be popular among Trek fans and sci fans in general but not anyone else really. Strange New Worlds is basically a homage to classic Star Trek and it largely works and that show seems to be doing well.

Strange New Worlds i consider to be canon, Discovery, Prodigy and Lower Decks i dont.

I'm also still waiting for season 5 of Enterprise.
