Yeah a lot of people feel that way about modern Star Trek shows, I don't personally. Times change and people's taste change. Older type Star Trek show wouldn't of even lasted more than a season these days. I am just happy I have some Start Trek because apparently I am never going to see new Farscape episodes/shows and I've been waiting for a new Stargate series for about an decade 🤷‍♂️

At least it's not as bad as the J J movies...
I actually don't mind the first JJ Abrams movie despite the lens flare. Star Trek discovery is too shit. What times change? It's poorly produced and choreographed and the acting and writing is very rubbish. None of the scenes, Characters or acts are iconic or groundbreaking like the trek of old that you can refer to or be inspired by those scenes. We might get one more Stargate series I think.

Tv shows have changes a lot, not only scifi. Unfortunately that effected scifi too as nerd culture became more popular. Now you are not a nerd if you watch scifi or play videogames, while back in the days we were considered nerds. So the negative thing from that is that modern scifi shows are made to appeal to a wider audience these days. Take a look at Marvel and DC shows that are full of so much extra unnecessary drama. That's just the way it is...

On the Stargate lets see it's been rumoured to be almost in production, but so the remake of Blake's 7 and I don't think that's happening anytime soon.

Most tv shows these days have become very dystopian and the sound effects are just too in your face and super super loud and too too realistic which makes people not feel anything at all. I personally totally detest modern tv shows apart from the orville as it seems to keep the original of keeping it low at certain points. There have been some scenes or space battle scenes which were too loud. I love Marvel but I love the cartoon series from 80's and 90's and 2000's they were really onto something back then. Proper pacing, likeable characters and even costume design and the props. The new star trek is nothing more than a robotic digital polished turd with fancy ass graphics (I actually dislike space battles in sci-fi actually). I think I am going to back to reading hard science fiction books as it will give me an insight into real sci-fi as opposed to what we've had.

Merlin was the last fantasy show I've liked because it has wonderful stories of the movies and tv shows covered in the 80's and 90's and I've watched Games of Thrones but it seems to be nothing more than gratuitous nude fantasy kinda like what Spartan was like that and people only watch it so they could jack off to it. I think it's unfair that these companies are making record profits and money but they are not coming up with the proper output. Another fantasy space opera that turned into a turd is the new Star Wars movies and the new Obi-Wan Kenobi - I thought it was ok in some parts but they just spent an entire series 6 episodes on saving a small girl and all it was that a kid got stolen and then she was rescued and they had a couple of battles with Darth Vadar and Obi-Wan lost his powers and then gained it back and Hayden made a return but a very cameo return. Very below sub-par storytelling and very amateurish too. The only good thing were some of the graphics but that's it.

The new Stargate is going ahead because Amazon has started listing it on their thing. I hope it's not written by an AI because it will lose any human element if you are going to let an AI do all the work and talk about laziness and lazy writing if they are going to allow a computer to do all of the work, where is the fun in that?

This is a really good soundtrack by John Williams

Anyway, I am looking forward to Cobra Kai any fans of Karate Kid might like this show. It's follows the cannon very detailed oriented right down to the hotel that Daniel stayed in and even got some of the minor characters who appeared on the show to make guest appearances.

Yeah still trying to find the time to take a look. 6.2 rating is not encouraging... And even then, it's IMDb, which usually has higher ratings.
It cost them 93 million dollars to make Lord of the Rings fellowship as opposed to the ring of power which costs 60 million dollars per episode.
This intro monolgue is badass so much better than the original. You can feel in the voice and breathe how persuasive it is just by hearing it.

Amazon Spent $700 million on the first 8 episodes in season 1.

I started the Rings of Power. I am seriously impressed with the visual imagining of the world. There are some astonishing feats of CGI, which usuall I do not like much. Unfortunately I find the story very boring so far. When they mentioned that the rough-round-the-edges sailor is actually the lost king I rolled my eyes at the replication of old ideas and the predictable way in which it all played out.

A lot of people, including myself, have complained about how the show seems to lack direction. Where is this story going exactly? It just seems like a bunch of characters all doing their own thing. There is like no central vision for the show really. I'm questioning how accurate this is to the writings of JRR Tolkien.

oof carefull now.. you don't want to be labeled a racist by Amazon for not liking such a diverse show don't you? :p

JK.

All and all from what i've heard including from you and @Pantantera I'm not missing out on much, seen as the overwhelming amount of reviews i've skimmed through all tell the same thing.

its just...boring.

its not. that was the whole point of this series. To completely rewrite the world and Lore that Tolkien wrote and make it reflect modernity,

I've watched 2 episodes just now, and I must admit that I'm pretty much liking it! It's just a beginning, and there are some things that annoy me a little. Yes, the show could've had better pacing. LotR had a much more effective introduction into its lore, it's something that can't be replicated that easily, even though I wish the showrunners at least attempted to. There's a slight whiff of mediocrity about it. The music is nowhere near Shore's masterpiece. The characters are a bit all over the place. There are some scenes that are longer than they should be, or some purposefully obscure...and so on.

But it's just the beginning. Maybe when the show ends, we will have a better understanding of what was its purpose, and how the story unfolded. What we're writing about it now seems reactionary at best. No time to see the big picture, or reflect.

Yes, it resembles The Hobbit more than it does LotR, and it won't be a 10/10 series, but hey, at least we get Middle Earth on screen. They can improve from season to season too!

I don't know I am not that impressed by the graphics. I still prefer the graphics in the Lord of the rings movies. This is a comparison. The original movie looks more realistic as in it has more imperfections. I mean look at the teeth of the dogs they have tartar and staining of the teeth while the new one they have such smooth teeth and it looks fake.

I just waded through the first 4 episodes of house of the dragon (onto Rings of Power next) and I'm glued like I was back when GoT first came out.

The latest The Grand Tour special, A Scandi Flick. An hour and forty minutes of absolutely nothing of note happening. Wonder what causes it, the last one (Carnage A Trois) was brilliant, and their own individual shows are still fun to watch. So it's not like they lost it.

Anyone watched Banshee....

Found myself revisiting this and always enjoy it. Has it all, amongst the crazy story line, fight scenes and sex.
