Ive listened to stuff like this for a few years, hope to create music in this style one day, but what style would you say it is?
Can’t believe how calm its making me feel. I love it. Its not really trance but i think some people think it is. It seems too complex for house but then, so many genres/sub genres it gets confusing.
House used to be Jack ( Jack House chicago late 80s) but now everything not trance but is melodic is said to be house. But is it?
It only matters a bit when communicating with people what genre it is but main thing is. Its fkn Bbbeeaauuutiiifull.

Sounds like Anjunadeep and other Anjunabeats-styled house. There really isn't one specific term to describe it.
"Melodic house" sounds just about right.

Edit: Nora Van Elken - Celestial sounds like something I've heard before, but I can't pinpoint what. It has the exact same rhythm/groove/melody as.. something

100% agree. While some of it is quite trancey, it's really groove based with a distinct house rhythm & clap. Also, trance at 121-123 bpm is quite rare IMO. I don't like BPM dividers but at slower BPM things really lean towards a house style.

Vs stuff like this at 121-123 which I would consider more progressive trance. I mean, it's either side of a shifting line depending on who you ask though. On Beatport I think these tracks would be tagged as melodic house & techno, deep house, or progressive house. They are just much more melody focused so I think of them more as trance but, even as I write this I am thinking I am full of it lol. I really adore music at this pace though. Some prog heads think it is boring, which I will never understand (Sorry for a few spotify links, used them where Youtube was busted or non-existant)

Matt Black - Blindspot (Original Mix)
Boxer - Crawler (Extended Mix)
David Gradwell - Resolution
Paul Thomas - Sweet Harmony (Mir Omar Extended Remix)
Paul Thomas; Sean & Dee - Napilla (Extended Mix)
Gai Barone - Chavah
Orkidea - My Sunset (Extended Mix)

There's a couple of tracks in that mix to choose from 🙄
Never liked this drowsy style of whatever btw. Sounds like loop-based sampled foundation to all tracks. It's just a "style" but lacks cretaivity finesse and musical substance. We've had this style over substance issue in electronic music especially now for 15 years

Yeah i suppose melodic house is a kinda description of this style, but i find if it gets called house then to me its still a bit miss leading. The first dance album i bought was in 1987 when i was 11 - The Greatest Hits of House, Telestar Records.. House sounded so different then to what the Anjuna stuff is now. I used to listen a little to what was called proggressive house around 6 years ago. Stuff like the Grand Sound YouTube channel. Laid back but not as dreamy or affecting/emotive. But back in the day Gat decor - Passion ( instrumental version only) was considered prog house and was around 1992. Very different again.

Then theres the Glorious stuff by Sebastian Leger. More complex layered and distinctive and isnt he considered melodic prog house even though quite different from the ben bohmer type vibe.

edit:
Its occured to me ( did also when it started to appear on anjuna) that maybe this is a style of ambient house. Just very much updated sounds compared to the 90s

I have to disagree Daysleeper ( with some of what you say). For me, being able to create the vibe is creative when its as deeply felt as some most of the tracks on this kind of mix. There’s actually some very good live performances on YouTube by ben bohmer ( such little artists do this kinda style live) which shows how these type of tracks are for me definitely creative too.

- I suppose one mans drowsy is another mans dreamy. ( similar definition i guess tho so maybe thats not much of a distinction ). I just get so rather pleasently relaxed listening to some of this in such a way much house/techno/trance cannot do for me but this style seems to get called one of these by many with just the word ‘deep’ often added. Deep it certainly is for me though. Ambient too. So is it then a new Ambient House? 🤔

In the past I’ve attempted to replicate these sounds vibe and style in my productions and failed. I made it sound much more 90s instead. Very much want to try again one day though.

Ive nade that melody focused vs slow temo distincion in the past myself as im pretty sure when anjuna deep first started it was still being called trance because of their anjuna’beats’ compilations and singles. It then i think later became described as house. ( could be wrong as was a long time ago)

Melodic for sure and yeah alot of Anjunadeep style. I believe this style first appeared on the Anjunadeep compilations around 10 or so years ago, maybe more.

I quite like some interpretation ms of familier tracks when done in this style, not sure if the Nora van elken track is a copy or remix ( will examine it later) but ive definitely heard elements of famous tunes used in music like this. Seems to be easy to drop certain familier melodies into this kind of music.
