@jetflag this is right up your alley.
The part where Palo Alto residents voted to get rid of the proposed high-density residential complex for the elderly almost made my blood boil:

Yeah i've seen the vid, and kudos to the NYT for actually putting out a piece like this in this current media climate.

Its no shock to me honestly. When I was in Nevada/California 2 years back i've seen it up close The big, 4 fireplace and a private pool mansions with 2 diesel SUV's and sign that said "safe the planet" and "help the poor immigrants" Its the thing that honestly annoys me most about progressive neo-liberals like those we're currently seeing in the US dems or the Dutch VVD etc.

Its not the candidates, Its not the direction/policies, some of which I agree with, its not the "pandering to the crowd" part and empty, unrealistic promises.

its the Hypocrisy. The not putting your money where your mouth is part. The "we need to help the poor and disenfranchises but not in my garden and need less people on the planet for the climate but not me and my family" bit.

Now fair, every party and politician and spectrum has some degree of hypocrisy or some sort of dual standard their whielding, often just for sheer pragmatism. but when you compare level of Dual Standard, this particular subset of often very wealthy pretenders stick out head & shoulders.

I find this weird irrational fear of the words "left", "Marxism" and "woke" that your lot have really strange. Can it be pinpointed to specific origins? Jordan Peterson, Rogan Josh or one of these other YouTube grifters?

I conversely find it wierd how you lot get insta-triggered whenever someone utters a (justified) critique of said topics and the way in which they manifest in the real world. Its almost as if you have a certain emotional attachment to it.

There's no meaningfull distinction between the "historical version " and "new" marxism we're currently seeing pop up our political, educational and cultural institutions. To pretend otherwise is nothing more then a No True Scotsman. Its the same philosphy that is driving the utterances.

So when I see the clear onset and signs of that in the developed world popping up left right and center. I tend to speak out against that to (hopefully) help prevent it becoming an actual mortal threat.

Now why do you @Hot Tuna have such a problem with me doing that precisely? Even if, being generous here, you personally don't recognize any of Marx's philosophies in todays political, cultural educational and media climate (which I find baffling, but anyway) Why do you have such a problem with me speaking out against what is basicaly a resentfull, flawed, catagorically wrong, and ultimatly murderous philosophy?

Do you work in an educational institution?

I just worry about you, really. I recognise a lot of the same buzzwords and overly-emotive language in your diatribes that I often see with people who spend too much time online and are detached from the actual relatively calmer realities of the world outside. See your immediate reaching for 'Hitler', 'deaths', 'murderous' etc.

Your concern touches me, now i've answered your previous question, so before you drop another one on me, could you please have the decency to answer mine first?

It's pointless. You've previously had me and another poster who both work in educational institutions assure you that your worries are utterly detached from reality, but here we are again. Ultimately I'm not trying to change your mind or interested in a discussion, but hopefully any lurkers out there who don't share your attitudes might be relieved to see them challenged.

Yeah i didn't think you would.

You're not challenging them. You're just saying: "not true from where i'm sitting lol" and then running away. 😅 We did indeed have this conversation (in which you by your own admission are not interrested in in the slightest) before and it followed a similar pattern. Something indicative of ideologues.

So if your goal was to just "troll" in order to hopefully convince "lurkers" of my wrong think here, you're not doing a very good job if I may say so.

I would too if there actually was one (and if my detractor was actually interrested in having one ) 🤷‍♂️

The coffee alone will do I suppose.

I'll just ignore the previous discussion (you're both right) only to say that Jordan Peterson has really become something of a joke recently. It seems like he bought in to the crowd's demands and whispers to them what they want to hear, with overly simplistic viewpoints on a lot of things (which was also kinda happening before, to be honest). Isn't it ironic that he, who didn't bother to Google his meds' side-effects and as a result nearly died, now has the balls to talk about vaccines?

I am deeply grateful to the man, but some of the things he says should be taken with a fistful of salt. As far as I'm concerned, I think he's said everything he needed to already, he's carried his message. Now he's just keeping the business running.

Did anyone read his new(er) book? Was it any good?

These 2 weeks of internship provided me a lot of insight into my own life. Everything feels better. Didn't actively listen to music for those two weeks, and now when I turn it up it feels amazing. Getting shivers to old favourites again. Much more focused with what I listen to (and do). Any bad habit, addiction or vice is basically gone - including social media and porn. A home-cooked meal feels better; cooking feels better. Going out for a drink feels better, meeting with friends feels better. So much of the simple things become a routine when you have lots of free time.

That's been my perspective on Jordan for the last few years m8. I still need to read 12 Rules, which is sitting on my desk lol

Yeah, the first few weeks feel like a big change. Once you get more used to working you can slowly ease into your habits, like putting on trance or other Youtube playlists.
When you're unemployed, every day blends into one another even if you have a fitness routine, and it's easy to spend hours on social media and porn. If you have a job, go to the gym, and cook for yourself, you can't waste as much time.

its actually in a lot of ways better then the predecessor, especially in terms of consistency

As for "he should have googled his meds' side-effects" Seriously? You're the one sounding like an anti-vaxxer now 😅

Then man is clinical psychologist, who's not a big fan of (internet) self-diagnosis. His physician (who prescribed him the drugs) should have warned him accordingly. I've been on benzo's for 1,5 year and my doctors where very carefull in checking up on things like addiction rate or paradoxical reactions.

Haha yeah that was my ironically oversimplistic view of the situation, but still, as someone who argues about A LOT more than just clinical psychology, he should see the irony in that at least. I don't excuse his doctor here, far from it. But even clinical psychologists can prescribe meds in some states.

Will read the book then, once I'm done with the one I'm currently reading.
