My heart goes out to all the Russians who protested and will likely face arrest, and to the Russian military in Ukraine who surrended when they realized what was happening.
Indeed. Its always, no exception, the average Joe's/ hard working citizens who suffer the boot from Elitist government shenanigans. :cautious:

Latest:
- Russians entered Kyiv, people sheltering in the Metro.
- Ukraine sais it destroyed 30 Ru tranks and 6 helicopters, but I doubt the accuracy of that given the amount of strategic territoriy they've already conquered.
- 137 ukranians killed
- 100.000 displaced (UN)
- protests in russia who're (ofcourse) forcefully being "emergency act'd" uppon
- The west gives "sanctions" and limited military supplies.

^ no empathy given to the freedom convoy truckers, this and the freedom convoys are not the same situation

call me a hypocrite if you'd like, but I will never support what those convoys stand for

(you can't compare actual war vs. mandates that were slated to go away in weeks anyways)

fine, you're a hypocrite in terms of condemning one form of unjustified authoritarian police violence but not another because its not your team, and your position of never supporting the freedom to choose what the State can inject your body with is a position i'm diametrically opposed to. 🤷‍♂️

To me police crackdowns like the one's we're currently seeing in Russia and Canada, (where mounted policed ran over a wheelchaired elderly Indian woman, among which) are unacceptable, period. regardless of their political stance.

(Edit: doesn't mean I think you're a bad person across the board, we're just firm in disagreement on this particular subject :) )

I'm not offended, just owning it I guess. No point in me trying to accept both viewpoints because I don't.
And yeah, our viewpoints don't really say if we're bad or good people. I agree with you on that.

^live map of the conflict in the region.

Ukraine and Putin have agreed to sit down/talk apparently. Slightly good news I suppose. Though I wouldn't put it past either side (and especially not Putin) to use these "talks" as a means of diversion/ buying time & regroup

Quite a busy day today. A bit of stress at work, a bit of leisure at work, a bit of socializing, a bit of drinking, a bit of serious talk...

which act?
Twice, a pop group
I went alone but had a great time!

edit: I just realized I repeated myself lol, and I sounded kinda like a bot. The concert happened right before Russia started invading Ukraine, so having those post-concert feelings + looking at the media over the past couple of days has felt like whiplash. But that's nothing compared to what Uplifted is going through.

what it looks like from here:

on the Strategic front.

- It looks like Putin's initial "blitzkrieg" wave tactic, is for the most part failing Most strategic cities have (partially) been surrounded/ under siege though.
- Ukranian forces are going all in and severly slowing russian progress during day 3, Civilians being armed with molotov cocktails, and militairy installations being placed near populated areas, saddling the Russians with yet another dilemma, (namely an ethical one) other then the classic do we Siege or March?
- Kiev's Hostomel as well as Tsjernobyl have been taken, which means the Russians can now fly in the big equipment to take Kiev instead of going by land. Kiev is close to facing a two direction invasion, one from Nizhin, one from Irpin, who's for now still under Ukranian control.
- Multible cities/areas still in dispute however.

on the political front:
- (as expected) Russian allies don't condemn (yet), Russia's opponents condemn.
- Sanctions Galore, however NATO thus far is reduced to a bystander roll only providing (light) weapons to save face.
- Putin is getting the nuke's on combat alert, which I catagorize as a political move, not a strategic one, wouldn't be the first time he pumps his chest with this.

on the good news political front:
-Negotiation/peace talks have been arranged on the border with Belarus, however

For those of you not only horrified by whats happening, but interrested in precisely why both the West and Russia have such a gib mentality over ukraine all of a sudden, Ranging from Tactical to Economical to Political.

This video lays it out quitte neatly.

The simplified versyon I've heard is that Ukraine was allowed to exist as a buffer zone. However, when Russia invaded Ukraine, and Ukraine's people did not take kindly to being invaded... well.
There's no "two-sides"-ing this issue unfortunately. Clearly one side (the west) has Ukraine's (and humanity's) best interests in mind. That's all that matters.

on that last part, You didn't watch the whole video did you?

there's a very good reason why they (the west) where out of the blue very interrested early 2008 in ties with Ukraine, a country formally known as very corrupt and oligarchical (which in my country let to quite the political scandal fun fact) and are now very contempt watching from the sideline to see how this unfolds. (apart from "sactions" and aid/weapon delivery)

There's also a very good reason why Ursula recently didn't go through with the emergency procedure to pull ukraine into the EU before Putin can take Kiev.

(edit: yet, things are rapidly unfolding)

make no mistake. Ukraine is being fucked over by the holier then thou West and their promises/tokenism as much as it is by the Russians and their tanks..

I'm on it!

From an outsider's perspective, it's simple - the rest of the world doesn't want WW3 to break out. The most the West can do is deliver aid/weapons and sanction Russia.
There's also a very good reason why Ursula recently didn't go through with the emergency procedure to pull ukraine into the EU before Putin can take Kiev.
I'll have to continue watching the video.

I insist that "both sides"-ing this issue makes no sense. Sure, both sides are shitty, but at least one of them is not actively invading Ukraine.

I kindly ask you two to not hijack this topic and get another jetflag v dmgtz96 debate topic :)

Any conclusion should be: War fucking sucks. A handful of stupid rich people decide the fate of many, many innocent people. War fucking sucks.
