I'm just about to sell my car, for a loss of about $3,000. Not bad after 8 months of ownership. Still need to schedule delivery of my new car before the end of the year.

@jetflag you'll be very surprised at what I'm getting... :)
What did you have and what will you have?

If I sell my now, after 3 years, I still might make some little profit. Did you buy it used or new?

The US is experiencing an intense cold wave right now. The Dakotas reached -40 deg C. My area will go as low as -12 deg C, the coldest that I've ever been.

Model 3, but I'm still working out the finances/delivery. If it happens, it'll be by the end of the year
Dude! Congrats! That’s a hell of a piece of wheels to own. I gonna get the self drive option in aswell??

Nah, I'll just get the basic autopilot to pay it off as soon as possible. The model 3 base RWD is much, much better than the car I own and should be able to take me on a cross-country road trip (if I wanted to, hah).
I'll wait to see what happens with full self driving. Many Tesla owners think even the $200 monthly suscription wasn't worth it. Even without the FSD software the car itself is pretty neat and one of the best you can own in the US.

Edit: another thing that I'll get (if I take delivery this year) will be 10,000 free supercharger miles!

You've made Elon richer. I have been seeing a lot of Tesla on the road.

Yep, though not for long. I think he'll be ousted as the CEO eventually, maybe in 2023/2024.
In any case, Tesla are the best EVs to own in the US right now. The supercharger network isn't quite there yet for the other EVs... that'll take a solid 5-10 years.

Fun fact: He is, infact, actively searching for a CEO to replace him.

Read about this. Y'all will be fine. It was -20 few years ago here. Not pleasant, but it was at least dry which meant you could still drive somewhere if you need to. One winter 10 years ago wasn't as cold, but we had lots of snow and didn't go to school for 2 weeks.

Supercharger miles…. I was a bit confused initially. Supercharger’s are on older cars something to boost an engine and increase performance. Probably making it very fuel inefficient!

I was like… is this a JOKE!
But it soon dawned on me it must be the name for the method to electrically charrrggge the Tesla!

Happy days! Great car man!

My dad looked into getting a Tesla a year or so ago, they were on offer. Seeing as he has always had and still has sports cars and drives them ridiculously fast, i was concerned.
His sports cars are from the 1960’s and 1930’s. I like my dad a lot. Im glad he didn’t get a Tesla, he wouldn’t hold back and would likely drive it into a ditch or something worse!! He just would not be able to resist maxing the acceleration round bends.
I love my dad! Im he eventually thought more sensibly on the matter and thus, He’s still in one piece. His every day jag is much slower than a tesla! ( but he is still considering a new car) im gonna have to make sure he dont get a super fast one!

Haha, the one I bought "only" has a 0-60 of 5.8 seconds. Compare with the 3.1 for the performance model :p

I'm buying it mainly for the mobility that it will give me. I will be able to travel farther than 250 miles on a single day.

all right, it's official. I'm picking up my model 3 on Tuesday afternoon

also, my area is currently at 14 deg F (-10 deg C). Some of our stores and sections of the city are already without power. I'm doing ok myself, though I procrastinated TOO much and am still doing laundry haha

Yeah, it's been ok so far. Once we get past the coldest hours of 2 AM - 7 AM tomorrow morning, it should be smooth sailing from there till Monday

edit: so far what I've done is opening all my water faucets slightly (so a constant drip flows), and opening the cabinets under the sinks so heat reaches them. It would suck for the water in the pipes to freeze

I just want to say how brilliant it is that this forum is more than about fantastic music.

I actually only have one friend in the town I live as moved here a week before the first covid lockdown years ago. Trying to make individual friends has been hard as we weren’t allowed to socialise during our many lockdowns and people seem to have got into a frame of mind of keeping to themselves or they already have a friend network and keep to that.

Ive had some extremely hard times lately and this forum has actually been a blessing. Given me a huge focus. A wonderful distraction. Well done to @Gagi & @Hensmon for running this site and any other admin im not aware off. Top job Gentlemen.
Seems like my timing for joining it was ideal. I only came accross it because i searched a track by Slipstream who used to be Atlantis, writer of the classic Fiji. I chat to him occasionally as know him through a trance facebook group ran by binary finary who i also occasionally chat to. They’ve been a great support with my music actually over the past 2 years, but the encouragement you guys have been has been immense, and my confidence has grown in my production i feel.
Cheers for that peeps!

Ive started to significantly improve with my Long covid condition and feel i will one day return close to my old self. ( if i don’t over do things).

The fact we have the Off Topic chat is great as we can chat about really important issues such as dmgtz96 state off affairs with the weather in his home town. Incidentally im glad you are ok and surviving alright. Great news about the car 🚗 @dmgtz96

@Gagi what’s happening about the Alfa?

Cheers guys.

Formula for those who want to convert F into C

(32°F − 32) × 5/9 = 0°C

The only one I would be worried about is the -17F part the rest are not to worry. I have been through a bad snow storm before back in 1998. It got down to -50C back then and our doors and windows were all frozen shut.

In other news, I am planning a trip to New Zealand, Japan and Canada next year and even Europe too.

Thanks for the great words! It's really challenging at times, honestly been thinking about hanging the boots, but seeing people find some meaning in it gives me the energy to continue. @Katadunkass and @Magnevi are also two legends who had a huge hand in reviving the forum and making it what it is today.

It's close! Got the price down by 300 Euros, as I wanted. Will sort out the advance payment tomorrow, and then it's just waiting and sorting stuff out before finally having a first drive. Don't want to say anything else, not to jinx it. :D

Being without a car for a few days and not being able to even walk anywhere because of the cold is more boring than I thought it would be. I'm kind of just going through the motions at this point and even logged in at work to respond to a couple messages lol

Tried to get into Horizon Zero Dawn, but my game crashed fairly early on so I'll have to re-try tomorrow
