We are an international community here with members from lots of different places. I am interested...which place (city, town, country) do you live now or originate from, and what is it like there? What are some of the good things and what are some of the bad? Any interesting history or facts? Tell us about it.

I currently live back in the town I grew up. It's called Tring; a small English countryside town not far from London. It has lots of woodlands, fields, canals to explore + tons of old pubs and Indian restaurants. It's pretty quiet but with some nice history as one of the Rothschild family members (Lord Walter Rothschild) used to live here (Victorian times) in a huge mansion. He was an eccentric fellow who put together possibly the largest stuffed animal collection on earth, which now lives in a big museum 1 minute from my house. He would keep exotic animals like Turtles, Zebra, Cassowaries and Ostriches in the big park in town, and there are tons of freemason style monuments hidden in the woods around. Fond memories here but I'll be back in London in the coming weeks.

Both Zandvoort and Tring look pretty great! Zandvoort looks like a poor man's Dubai and I love the architecture style of Tring.

Petrovaradin/Novi Sad

I currently reside in Petrovaradin, a relatively newer town, given the rich history of this place. It was built over 300 or more years ago, and is famous for a couple of things: its fortress on Danube's right bank, and EXIT music festival, which attracts around 200000 fans each year from all over Europe. It is actually held at the fortress, which is amazing. Across the river is Novi Sad, this country's 3rd largest city, and that's where I attend college.

This is Petrovaradin fortress, it was taken in Novi Sad:

Fruška Gora (mountain/hill range)

It's got a sweet mountain/hill range just south, and it's a decent enough place for hiking. It's classified as a national park, and there are a lot of forests, grassy fields, a number of pretty great lakes, monuments and trails. It's used for pretty much everything: sightseeing, hiking, biking, swimming, making wine (it's actually a bit famous for that) and god knows what else. There are a lot of monasteries, some of them from the Middle Ages, from our kings and despots.

This is an old tower of Vrdnik (which actually was there since the Romans were here, 3rd century AD), in the middle of the mountain range:

Sombor

Now I wasn't born here, and am here only because I'm studying here. I was born in a small city called Sombor, which is actually called the Serbia's greenest city - because when looked from above, it's almost completely green because of the amount of trees it has.

City Hall building is its most famous landmark:

But for most of my life, I've lived in a small village just south of it. Nothing spectacular, just a village in a plain where agriculture thrives. It's just boring and depressing overall, but it has its charm.

Hell, Brazil

I live there.

Great for tourists, not great if you actually live here. Been dreaming of leaving Brazil since I was 6.
That's all I say, I have spent way too much time of my life complaining about why I don't like it here, it doesn't help my mental health.
You know the usual 3rd World Country issues.

Oh if all of the city/country had the same development (or better) of the picture from that video...

Proof (Dec 2016):

Zandvoort is nothing compared to Dubai! ;)

I'm born and live in Sofia, Bulgaria. The biggest perk to live here is Vitosha mountain by far. There are many good places - parks, monuments, churches, museums. We have great underground network. Otherwise is overpopulated, traffic jams, dirty. I love the city though.

Often forget how beautiful my country is. Need to travel more...

Haha, yeah. Those pics I posted of the mountain, with all the trees, it looks fabulous. But actually, during the summer, the grass under the trees grows quite high, the heat gets trapped below the trees, and there are all sorts of annoying insects flying around. But go there in early spring or mid-autumn and it's actually a wonderful place to hike.

Same goes with the cities. They have some wonderful buildings, wonderful places, but also homeless on the street, some violence etc.

Video of Sofia actually reminds me a bit of Belgrade. And the nature shots, if you told me they were made in Serbia, Montenegro or basically anywhere on the Balkans, I'd have believed you. We really do live in a fabulous place on Earth. Shame we don't appreciate it more sometimes.

As far as Bulgaria goes, I've actually been three times, but only at seaside - Chernomoretz twice, Pomorie once; visited Nessebar, Primorsko, Varna (the wonderful dolphinarium), and some other places as well - but mostly aqua parks, which were amazing.

Unfortunately, I was a bit too young to really appreciate the place, and if I went now, I'd try to discover some more places.

But unfortunately the Bulgarian seaside seems to pale in comparison with the Boka-Kotor Bay in Montenegro. That's one of the most amazing places I've ever visited. Pics don't do it justice.

I live in a small place called Linda-a-Pastora which is part of Queijas in the municipality of Oeiras in the surroundings of Lisbon. There's not much to see here but it's a nice place to live.

The first picture is very close to where I live, the second one is in Parque do Jamor which is a few minutes from where I live and the last one is a little view of the Cruz Quebrada beach where I often go to relax and clean my mind a little.

I'm in Aylesbury! Tring is a lovely place. The town itself is pretty. I love the Natural History Museum. Also love the countryside around there, Ashridge, the canals, Ivnghoe Beacon. I walk there a lot.
Aylesbury is pretty good too. We have a large country Estate owned by the Rothschild family just outside of the town. I cycle there regularly. Rothschilds are the world's richest family, apparently. And the Chiltern Hills are very near Aylesbury too.

I have family in Novi Sad and other places in Serbia! I've been to Sombor many times, my aunt used to live there. I've been to Exit once too.
Fruska Gora is beautiful. Have been there on holiday. We stayed in Vrdnik, which has a lovely spa.

I live in Aylesbury, UK. This is the website for Waddesdon Manor, a country estate owned by the Rothschild family. It's a few miles from my town. It's a big tourist attraction in this part of the country. The family own a lot of land around the Manor. Beautiful hills, woodlands and fields. A lot of it is open to the public for walking and cycling.

That's amazing to hear! Are you originally from here or were born to a Serbian parent (or two)?
