Man, oh man. I don't think I'd be able to do Top 10 or even 15. There's just so many, and even some of my favourites can sometimes be overshadowed by a track I (re-)discovered. That's another thing too, I've rarely fallen in love with any of his tracks on first listen. It's always a process, sometimes it takes a year, sometimes less.

Anyways, I'm gonna have a good thinking session on this, try and narrow it down to 5. I mean, I guess I can, but then I'd have like 20 honorable mentions. 😂 And I'd feel bad for leaving tracks out.

I get you entirely. My list could also be a top 50 with ease, but I am deliberate in keeping it narrow, to really get the thinking going as you said.

Airwave has always been a MASSIVE inspiration for me and one of my 3 favourite producers in terms of productivity amount + quality.
ALL of his albums are fantastic, Lolo, Planisphere, Green Velvet, Velvet Girl, Fire & Ice, Ultra Vibe, B4, Meridian & many more aliases + projects are absolutely amazing...

His Luminosity sets are so good as well, especially the Bonzai classics one from 2014...

I think even choosing my top 5 Airwave albums would be a hard choice, so choosing 5 tracks is nearly impossible task, but I'll try my best.

I'll cheat a bit and start with my....

Honourable mentions:

15. Airwave - When Things Go Wrong
14. Fire & Ice - Para Siempre
13. Solar Stone - Seven Cities (V-One's Living Cities Remix)
12. Lolo - Laia's Daydream (Airwave Breaks Mix)
11. Fire & Ice - Silent Cry
10. B4 - Before & After
9. Fire & Ice - Souvenir De Chine
8. V-One - Dead Cities
7. Lolo - Landscape
6. Meridian - Area 99 (Original Mix)

And now my top 5:
5. Lolo - Extended Horizon
4. Meridian - Starving Dolphins
3. Airwave - Sleep Alone
2. Ultra Vibe - Choose Freedom
1. Airwave - Ladyblue (1992 Flight)

Didn't add any Planisphere tracks as I think there should be a whole "Planisphere - Solarism album" in my top 5 xD

He's got so many quality tunes, it is nothing short of musical genius what he has done in his career. The fact that we are all choosing a strong variety of tracks in our tops is a testament to how good he really is. Ive said it before but i'm gonna say it again... he NEVER sold out or dumbed down his sound. He always remained authentic to what he wanted to make. LEGEND!

Here's mine

1. Airwave - Lady Blue (1992 Flight)
2. Airwave - Summer In
3. Lolo - Extended Horizon
4. Planisphere - O
5. Indoctrinate - Feeling You

The fact that I prefer different mixes or tracks in the same style to the ones you guys posted (and the fact that there are lots of different suggestions) just makes me conclude that this is all just pure personal preference and taste, and that there's no ultimate Top 5 list, at least regarding Laurent.

It's like trance as a genre, really.

Absolutely my friend. There is no official Laurent best, I was just curious in your personal preferences as he has so many great ones. This thread is both a celebration of Laurent and look at how he impacted each of us.

But yet again like artist such as Matt Darey,Lange or Paul van Dyk - most of his best work came early on in his career - i can only pick out a few standout tracks from the last 10 years or so. After Cathedrals Of Hope he went a little too deep for me,and lost a lot of the melodic qualities he was mainly known for in the first place.

He really has done work across many different moods. Fire & Ice was arguably his most commercial project, and he even dabbled in progressive house/trance around 2005-2008.
Personally, I think melancholic melodies suit him best even though he has produced a lot of "happy" tracks. His creativity really shines when he's not constrained to the usual trance formulas, which is why I think The Long Road to Freedom (breaks, not even a 4/4 time signature) is one of his best tracks even though it is largely overlooked.

Really surprised most of you skipped Elemental, as I consider it the best (/top 3) Lolo track.

Another one, also overlooked, is his Vocal Club Mix of Hello Sunshine. I choose Vocal Mix because he is the singer, and the lyrics, although looking quite positive at a first glance, are incredibly dark, and I suspect very personal. I wouldn't consider it a Top 5 material because he's had a million tracks, but I just love how personal it feels.

From his ambient/chillout works, I think this is my favourite: Beam. I think I prefer the rework because I think it sounds better and is an improvement over the original in terms of mixing and mastering.

Anyways, if I had to make a list, I'm sure Venus Of My Dreams and Ladyblue (Original Beat) would be there (or at least one of the two). It's really strange, I've gotten to know a majority of his discography but I can't comprehend it in its entirety at once. Not even his best works.

I got into Airwave and his other projects very late. I didn't even know he was Lolo until many years of listening to these tracks, which I think are my favourite. I also like the Capetown music with Ferry Tayle. The more uplifting and big melody stuff is my favourite. I am still discovering more and more music from him each week. Thanks to this thread I have discovered many more.

1. Lolo - Pop The Cats Adventure
2. Lolo - Why
3. Cape Town - Challenger
4 - Airwave - People Just Dont Care
5 - Lolo - Elemental
