Some of the best ageing electronic music double not only tunes to dance to, but as vessels for moments of catharsis and ephemeral reflection, whether at home listening on the couch, or at the best club in the world. Arno's What is Life!?', the third release on his self titled label, teases the possibility of such instants initially with the title, before fulfilling the criteria throughout the two tracker. On the title track, the Frankfurt producer blends the chaotic with the orderly, as distant siren stabs are mixed amongst graceful drones and heavenly choral pads, all whilst being propped up by muffled breaks. On the second side, esteemed minimal house pioneer Thomas Melchior, under the alias Melchior Productions Ltd, delivers a micro-house Michelin star meal, adding touches of groove and grit to the plate, bringing a gorgeous spice to an already excellent track.
