Perhaps will treat myself once I get my first paycheck.
Isn't that the book that, among which, makes a case for/advocates slavery :P

Haha, not sure, haven't stumbled upon that so far. All these old books have a little something in them from their own times. It was just normal back then, slavery. Wasn't that Politics anyways? He's had a lot of works.

In the meantime, I stopped reading the book because it's really hard to follow. The style of writing (/translation) is really tough to swallow, and when you combine that with the book's complex subject, you just get lost and either read mindlessly or spend too much time on one small section. I'll wait until I can get my hands on a Serbian translation.

I started reading Baltasar Gracian's The Art of Worldly Wisdom. It consists of 300 short maxims, so it's pretty easy to read, you can stop and continue at any time. His thinking is also pretty incredible.

I like the fact that him, Marcus Aurelius and Aristotle have somewhat different philosophies. It gives me the opportunity to challenge every one of them, see which one fits me the best; to get the best of each one of them.

One of the books I wanted to read for a long time was The Prince by Machiavelli. But I'm afraid I might like it too much...

What am I doing, you ask?

Well, just listening to some classical music over on AccuRadio (Classical Relaxation channel), and reading Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment. Just started it. I kinda know what it's about, but I'm loving it so far.

Im about to finish a book by Brian Weiss, called Messages From The Masters. I picked it up randomly at a hostel I was staying at.

The Dr is basically convinced that reincarnation is a real thing, and that when someone dies the soul returns to Earth after in order to further their learning, understanding as well as fixing mistakes and debt. Once the spirit has been enlightened enough it will progress through the spiritual realm to the next level. So yeah, it's pretty 'out there' lol. He uses NDE case studies and regression therapy case studies as the anecdotal evidence to support his claim. They key element is apparently love, which ties everything together, essentially the buddhist belief. I neither believe or disbelieve him, but found it an interesting idea. Who knows...

Loving Crime and Punishment so far. It's getting really exciting now, with cliffhangers at the end of every chapter.

I wish I could read a bit smarter though; that is, be able to read with thought, analyze the characters, the situation etc.

Finished Crime and Punishment. Great, great book. At some points (like the dialogue between Raskolnikov and Sonya, or his dreams) my heart rate went up, at others (dialogues between Raskolnikov and Porfiry) I was hooked. It's a thriller like no other. You can go as deep as you want in analysis as well. Truly a masterfully crafted piece of literature.

My next book will most certainly be one from Dostoevsky. Which one I don't know yet, will see what my mom has to recommend; though I plan on reading all his novels eventually.
