AMSTERDAM – In the club Bittersweet in Amsterdam on Wednesday noon where the book 'Eén op één' was presented, a book about the life of Armin van Buuren. Write Coen Bom, alias Peter van Leeuwen, has followed the dj for a year.
The book goes especially about the bizarre things which the popular dj, in 2008 chosen by the British Dj Magazine as the best dj of the world, experienced during his performances around the world.
"The idea comes from a business partner of me", according to van Buuren. "He went with me to performances and was amazed by the weird things you experience during the travelling. You need to do something with that, he said."
That's how the idea originated to let someone write a book. The choice was made very quickly. "I thought immediately about Coen Bom. I really like his columns."
Cocaine
The most bizarre thing that Armin ever experienced? "That was in Panama", says Armin without a doubt.
"We were picked up by people in a huge limousine. In 'no time' there showed up enormous quantities of cocaine. I was scared at that moment. In countries like that apply strict rules for that."
Just like top sport
in any case has the famous dj nothing with drugs. "I don't use that. If I'm sixty, then I would like to try it, just to see how it is. But during work I don't do it, although I see it often happen around me."
"You know, this work is just like top sport. You have to be very stable to manage this."
Concerned Mother
Van Buuren leads a stable life. The motto 'Sex, drugs and rock and roll' is not applicable on him. Although mum was worried about her popular son.
"Once I fell asleep during the Christmas dinner. Then it became to much for her. I was so busy, I was working myself to death. She was very worried about me."
And that has mothers pointed out: the colleagues of Armin, were he runs the music company Armada with, received a angry letter of her.
Curtains
Also his girlfriend Erika, with who he is going to marry soon, have had some hard times.
"Sometimes I was just finished playing for a thousand people, and then I received a mail from her. What colour curtains I wanted for our new house. That's so weird. Those kind of things are also important of course."
Modest
Nowadays has van Buuren improved his work scheme. "Notwithstanding that everyone wants to book me, we are trying to make a selection and we take care of enough rest."
The dj make one's excuses right away because he thinks 'everyone wants to book me' sounds very disrespectful.
'Armin van Buuren ego-tripping', he calls that.
Sacrifice money
He doesn't know an answer directly, on the question how he sees himself over five years. Except for the most natural conclusion: that he will never stop with spinning. "As I'm fifty, I still spin. Maybe not on this level, but I shall spin. Even if I have to sacrifice money."
sounds interesting, too bad it's only in dutch right now

Armin really seems like a nice guy real-life. But i don't think that I'll read that book. Not really interesting enough for me I guess![]()

If there was an english version I would buy this for sure.

Largest piece of Armins fanbase is non-dutch. I'm pretty sure that there will be a english version soon.Originally Posted by Sunglow
