This is on Linux, The window manager is called Openbox and can run on any distro, e.g. version of it. basically when I right click anywhere on desktop it brings down that menu and I click on whatever I want to run, be it applications or scripts. The entire window manager and menu is themeable, configurable and you can drop and drag applications to provide functionality. I also have another quick way of accessing apps and thats with a thing called dmenu so you can access apps quickly either via mouse or from keyboard.
Just a really nice UI for me and the way I use a PC. If you want system monitor can use a thing called Conky which is also highly configurable
Few links in my post here from last year: http://lintea.wordpress.com/2013/11/...-desktop-look/
P.s. You can either use a GUI tool or hand edit that menu on a notepad or in terminal, is an XML file.

No, sorryTake a look though perhaps? It's only a window manager so perhaps someone has put an effort into porting something similar?
The funny thing is as well is that you have entire desktop environments that for me just overcomplicate everything. Gnome, KDE, XFCE etc. I tend to just find bugs and wierd ways of working whenever I've tried working within them. With my environment I'm only ever two clicks or a keyboard shortcut from running an app. You can also punch in psuedo tiling window manager functions. If I hold a key combo for instance I can snap the selected window into whatever quarter or half of the screen I want, or just center it. Like it's flexibility![]()

I'm following @Darren's example with a clean desktop

I have a dirty secret, my 'desktop' um ... doesn't support icons, not without some additional software and configuration. However I find my workflow better without them so I've never bothered to devote time to working it out on Openbox.
I really like that wallpaper, I've got btw but is one of my preferred, smooth and with similar colours to my one above![]()
