    I need a professional Soundcard

HI! I will be really pleased if you could help me to purchase a better soundcard

I'm a trance DJ and I need a new soundcard to record my sessions and productions.

    This is my dj set:

    2 CDJ 2000 Pioneer
    1 Mixer Pioneer DJM 700
    2 speakers KRK 8
External Soundcard Creative Sound Blaster USB 5.1

To produce (and to make some dj sets) I alo use the Ableton Live software.

I need something which gives me a really professional sound. I know that many djs, when doing thier radio shows (like Armin - A State of Trance, Above & Beyond - TATW...) use soundcards to record their sets. I want something similar.

    Thank you so much

Nah this is not the question you should ask yourself.

Any soundcard will do. The trick is what comes after. MASTERING.

That's what makes ASOT sound like ASOT, doesn't have anything to do with recording.

Google for "Mastering for radio" for interesting info.

So, according to you, If I give my external usb sound card "Creative Sound Blaster 5.1" to Armin, he would be able to create the same sound than he actually does with his soundcard. So, the most important thing when recording is the plugins you use to master, what kind of plugins does Armin use to creat his sound?

Anyway, as asteki said, I want a professional soundcard because I want to produce too.

When Armin records it, it sounds pretty much the same as when you or I record a set. The soundcard will not have much (definitely not noticeable) difference on it.

    BUT THEN IT COMES....

Armin will take the recording to the MASTERING-phase. So with an EQ/Limiter, and whatever else he does, he changes the sound of the recording so that it's perfect to air on the radio. Less bass, more mid, harder limit. I don't know the exact settings obviously. As I said, google for "mastering for radio" and you will find tips.

If you want to produce your own music, then yeah, then Soundcard is a worthy topic. However, you probably will be capable of producing releasable music on an onboard soundcard or cheap-ish soundcard (like yours).
When you'd go fully professorial, then yes, there are soundcards that are considered "the best". I'd say, google "soundcard for producing" and you will get answers.

By the way, you also need VERY GOOD monitors if you would go for a expensive soundcard. Because, how else would you hear the detailed music that the soundcard brings

I heard that Izotope Ozone is also a good option for mastering.
Anyway, I need recommendations for a professional soundcard. Any suggestion?

As mentioned earlier: Armin uses a broadcast compressor, and if you heard it that way in a club you'd walk out of the club 30 mins later screaming because there's no dynamics in there. It’s really important to have some dynamics left.

But yeah - I would recommend the Focusrite Saffire as well. Good reviews and not that pricey either.

Soundcard helps a lot! But it's not the kind of help you think it is.

The two of the most important soundcard features when it comes to producing and djing are latency and i/o and midi jacks. Latency is very important if you have external gear like midi controllers and pick your soundcard so it has the right amount of the i/o jacks you need.
A good soundcard will also believe it or not lower the cpu %levels in your productions, I just updated my soundcard to to same manufactures same series card, but better, and even then there was a noticable difference.

It will also increase the sound quality of the outputted audio, and allow you to work in higher rates like 24bit 96khz. But not many people can even spot the difference. And if you don't record anything and encode your track to mp3 anyway, sound quality wise it's pretty much the same if you have a 50€ or 500€ soundcard.

So what I'm saying with all this, like Voci said, you probably don't even notice a big difference when you get your soundcard, but it still helps a lot. ASOT is famous for it's radiocompressor, for years people have tried to replicate it's sound, but no other radio show has that sound. Plugins like Ozone and TRacks can help giving a similar sound, but it's very unlikely that you get that exact sound, it's more likely that you just ruin your tracks and mixing with it if you don't know what you're doing.
