Updated rules + new infraction system

    Dear TranceFixers,

We hope your summer has started off well and you're enjoying nice weather and other joys.

Some important changes regarding the forum have been made that you should be aware of.

First of all, the set of forum rules has been updated, so please spare a couple of minutes of your precious time and have a look: click here.

Secondly, the infraction system has been changed which means we've got rid of the points system and now have:
    • warnings,
    • temporary ban,
    • permanent ban,

which will be applied based on infraction severity and attitude in general, not on point count as it used to be.

Also, some good news to those of you who received points by now: due to the change of the system, we have decided to reset your points*, so that might be a new start to some of you.

*Banned members will remain banned of course.

We hope these changes will help to keep TranceFix a better place for everyone.

    Regards,
    TF team.

Soooo what's the point in removing these 'points' if the infractions stay?

Nice to see things changing into the easier for the mods. Something which isn't clear to me is after how many warnings I will get (temp) banned?

The rules / FAQ page has been cut from roughly 5 pages to 1 for an easier read. The way the rules are applied has also been simplified.

Both have been done to produce a simple, flexible, effective way of managing the forums.

For instance with the old system minor infractions would carry 5-10 points. This would allow a member to accumulate 6-12 infractions before a permanent ban. Having mods tied to such a system wasn't productive, allowing disruptive members to play the system. Now with mods not being tied to such a system we can warn or issue infractions dependant upon circumstances & history. Freeing us from being tied to infraction types / arbitrary numbers.

Sorry if the above didn't help.

It's up to moderator discretion & depends on circumstances. I would expect a warning in most instances but if a history is there of them being issued and then ignored a temp ban may be issued. The quick answer is that it's now left to the judgement of the moderator rather than the constraints of a points system.

As always if anybody wants to appeal or contact us over any issues regarding actions they can contact the admin team here: http://www.trancefix.nl/sendmessage.php. As usual we will self moderate within the team to achieve the best consistency possible.

I don't think it's good to have a vague system which doesnt describe when to (temp) ban anyone. IMO the rules should make clear when someone is being banned or not.

    Just to make an example:
What if someone will insult me? I assume he will get a warning. But what if he insults me again? Will mod A ban him and mod B only send another warning? So it's all about which mod will handle that situation first to decide how the member will be punished? I wouldn't be happy with such a thing and could see many mods doubting what to do as they dont have clear instructions how to act?

We have guidelines, warning, temp ban, permanent ban. Typically one will follow the other if multiple breaches of rules are incurred.

Honestly the system doesn't change much in this area as to what we had before as the consistency you speak of wasn't in place under the prior system. Guidelines were there but there was always an element of flexibility in how it was applied, especially when dealing with subjective criteria such as offensive remarks. Ultimately action would fall down to how an individual moderator saw a situation at the time. Action would then be taken based on history & severity just like it will now with other mods able to review actions. The weight of an infraction was fixed but infractions weren't always applied, sometimes warnings were. With the new system points levels which were arbitrary limits before are now scrapped. They won't hold back moderators from applying firm action in circumstances which warrant it.

The rules are now clearer and the way moderators can act is flexible according to situation. We self moderate as a group and there is still a process for appeals so I don't see major issues for members here.

All depends on the situation but in general it should be that after two warnings the third one is a ban. However this is very dependant on the misbehavior severity
