Anyone looking forward to some Michael Bay?

I read somewhere a while back that the original Alien was actually intended for an audience of 14+ but there were apparently some disparities between the film board and the producers and in the end it was classified an 18+. Personally, in my all my years of admiration for the horror genre - especially now that I'm older (maybe not maturer) - a film doesn't needs to be excessively violent or gory to covey fear. The original Alien was was very claustrophobic and psycholochilcally intensive and i think it was these elements that made it the success it was. Of course, credit where credit is due - when you see the alien for the first time you have to hand it to H. R. Giger's incredible costume design, but much of the fear, for the most part, was being conveyed by your own subconsciousness. Very few films are able to deliver this theme successfully any longer and rely way too much upon excessive visuals, violence and dreadful jump scares.
May Mix

I've heard so many different things. That Covenant is the second in the series after Prometheus and will follow directly from this story.... BUT Blomkamp is directing the new Alien move, Alien 5. But then this one is called Alien: Covenenant!?? I don't know what the fuck they are doing, and looks like they don't either.
Im not overly thrilled at Blomkamp doing Alien 5 too, despite District 9 being one of my all time favourites. Chappie and Elysium were pretty shite.

That very statement contains everything that is wrong with the horror genre today. It seems like directors and writers can't tell a horror story anymore withouth unnecessary jump scares - I mean: Jump scares can be good and very powerful, but only if they are framed in the original story telling and not just a random cat jumping in or a f*cking bird hitting the window for no reason.
The very first Paranormal Activity was scary as hell imo. because it used the correct amount of jump scares and in the right way while also keep you guessing for what the entity actually is. Horror movies today tends to just show you the thing right away instead of building tension and keep the audience guessing for what it actually is.

Agree with this to an extent, but what the 18+ rating really does is put the film in a realm not meant for family/children/teens and therefore the director does not have to go through the motions of satisfying these large target audiences and watering down the content. The blood and gore is just an added bonus!

pretty cool trailer i must say

^Cool trailer indeed, but not really pumped for it. Just like BvS, but I hope it will be fine.

Aren't you guys not too old for action hero movies? Sick and tired of them.
