    Into The Wild (2007)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0758758

Moving, a film at first which I didn't think would have much pull grabbed me and just didn't let go. Excellent cinematography and a heart felt score whisk you along with the thoughts of an adventuring young man and his family. Though travelling apart it's that absence which helps them to grow close, and to reach closure.

Was very entertaining, but the entire premise/plot is quite disturbing. Takes place in the year 2022 in the USA. 1% employment, murder/crime rate is at an all time low. One night out of the entire year however, anybody is legally permitted to commit any crime but mainly murder without any consequence whatsoever--emergency services are out of service from 7pm-7am. People take out any/all aggression they build up all year in those 12hrs which has been legalized by the "New Founding Fathers". I did like the movie for its entertainment value, but the premise is quite disturbing for many reasons...

Quite a harrowing and disturbing insight into the events that led up to Washington Snipers assasinations. Its not action packed if that's what you're hoping for - infact there is very little action until the last 10 minutes (if you can even call it action). Anyway great film and Isaiah Washington was brilliant in it. 8/10

I saw this one in the cinema when this came out. Cool movie, but I always wondered who the black guy was. Why was he there, what did he do, why did they go after him??

Last 2 movies I watched were Evil Dead (2013) and last night Mama.

I tend to think the black guy was more of a symbol of the plot more than a character. The "purge" seemed to be those who were better off (financially) having a safer experience riding it out, or committing murder on the homeless/poor/etc. in order to create a utopia. Without giving too much away, the black man in the end "had a purpose" in society in a very significant way. It also showed to me that those who have more than most aren't always happy with their money and are constantly jealous of others--so pathetic really. In conclusion I look at this movie in a larger picture--the US gov't attempting to create utopia through a really f-ed up system of "purging". The movie doesn't go too deeply but it could have touched on many serious social issues here. Its creepy because there is a a kernel of truth in what I watched

Saw the Purge to a couple of monts ago, I liked this social issue theme in the movie because it made it much more than a sort of standard horror movie.

    Requiem for a Dream (2000)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0180093/

My God, what an utterly depressing movie. It takes something out of you to watch this because it's so raw.

    A) The movie begins slowly examining some everyday human pitfalls. All of them based on either addiction or obsession. Once that is detailed we move on to the next part.

    B) You see each character offered a glimmer of hope and a way out of what consumes them.

    C) Then you see a turn in events, the path blocked.

    D) Then it's a rollercoaster, you're kept on the brink of hope for a while but it's ultimately a double dip and you then keep getting dragged down.

    E) Then the end comes in sight, you get nailed down and you take it, you're not spared anything, it rips into you emotionally.

I've not seen a movie like it, art at some of it's finest.

It hasn't aged well but this isn't one I'll forget, nor is it one I'll put myself through again. Watch with care.

Should have seen this in theaters, awesome no-nonsense action film that is incredibly entertaining with great effects and soundtrack. A shame it didn't perform that well on the box office, would love to see more of this!

Gravity. Visually stunning and also nicely arranged with maybe a bit overdone message, but nonetheless I think it was worth the hype.

And for the lovers of Gravity there are some more good news:

‘Gravity’ Has a Fascinating Short Film Companion Called ‘Aningaaq’

    Some spoilers below:
‘Aningaaq,’ which shows this conversation from the point of view of the man on the radio. Written by Alfonso Cuaron’s son (and ‘Gravity’ co-writer) Jonas Cuaron, the short focuses on an Inuit man named Aningaaq who has a chance radio encounter with Bullock’s stranded astronaut.
If you are free in your dreams, then why don't you go to places you always wanted to go?

Watching Magnolia (1999), weird movie. Cool to see Tom Cruise actually has acting skills though.

Yeah buddy that movie is really messed up and in some unfortunate cases so realistic. I recall seeing this in college and afterwards I took a long walk around campus thinking what the f*ck? For me, the craziest storyline was the mother and her diet pills/red dress fantasy. As you said, its not an uplifter, so for those looking for happy-happy-joy-joy flick, this one isn't for you.
