How would you force them, exactly?

Human overpopulation is very much an issue I agree, but I think it's pretty hard to 'solve'. Who (which nation(s)) would enforce a global one child population? What are the penalties for not complying? Even if you ignore the many moral complaints, I don't think this would work at all or is realistic, from a practical point of view.

I think raising awareness on the issue and spreading knowledge and availability of birth control is the most humane and easiest way to normalize the world population. Other than that I'm in favor of colonizing other (habitable) planets, though it could take a long while before that becomes viable.

@AustralianGQ I hope that first paragraph is some kind of sick joke...
China has forced their population for decades and it has worked very well. Sure there are individual cases where it gets brutal but with such high population thats inevitable, in the end its certainly worth it.
I don't know how a global one child policy could be applied but if China can do it, other countries in mainly Africa and Asia could as well.
It all comes down to the political leaders in respective country, if they realize the importance of the policy they can apply it.
Raising awareness and spreading knowledge has been done for decades already, unless nothing more concrete is being done the same problems will go on for countless decades more. By then, the environment will be fucked up and most of todays wild animals are extinct.
