The advice is appreciated, but i spent the best part of a year trying out self help strategies not too dissimilar to the above before admitting defeat and like i said, Its only a short term solution.
I don't know why, but there seems to be this strange misconceptions that surrounds taking medications for mental disorders, that by taking them you've somehow surrendered to your condition. I can assure you, I have not. I essentially see using the medication as a rung on the ladder to helping me achieve my goal of either overcoming it, or learning to deal with it more suitably, at least until the cognitive behavioural therapy begins to treat the underlying issues. Because lets be honest here, adapting your mental state to deal with it doesn't happen overnight and whether you like it or not, your anxiety will still be very much working its magic in the short term. I also found that when i first started my sessions i was unable to fully concentrate and really benefit from them because of my anxiety so it helps with regards to that too.
So if by swallowing a few Xanax I'm a little more reluctant to rub one out every few days, then so be it, because it far surpasses waking up every morning with an imminent feeling of dread, not to mention the physical symptoms that resemble that of heart attack or stroke that often come with it.
