From how I understood, the trick isn't to strictly forbid your mind to think. It's that when you realize your mind has wandered off, you immediately recognize it and put a stop to it. Your mind will wander off from time to time, you can't not think of anything for a long time.

Other than that, either focusing on your body (going from head to toe, trying to recognize how each body part feels) or counting your breaths (1 to 10 and again) might also help.
