You should ask our neighbors where that fear comes from. Because, only 25 years ago, a part of their country (East Germany) was in such a state. That resulted from people with the best of stories, using times of fear and crises for implementing control measures "for the good of the people". They turned out to be tyrants. This happened many times in the last century, and many many more times since the dawn of civilisation. The fear of Big Brother is not dangerous, it's rational and based on very clear and abundant historical cases. I'd rather see people keeping governments in check than the other way around.
