I also think the release sections are quite a mess at the moment, the problem is that all kind of tracks are getting posted without any proper order so its quite difficult to use it as a proper source for finding new music.

My idea would be to introduce a pool of genres prefixes which are displayed in the release title, for each release atleast one genre-prefix has to be used.

Genre-prefixes could be the these: Prog, Psy, Tech, Pop, Electro, Bigroom, Acid, Uplifting, Ambient, Hard, Oldschool, Breaks

With this system one could click on the release section and get a basic idea of all releases just by reading their titles. Most users prefer certain styles so they could just skip those releases having the genre-prefixes they dislike and check those with the ones they like.

Imo a good idea, i dont see any disadvantages

Who decides the prefixes, what system do we follow? Should you take what Beatport has or another web store / Discogs? What if there isn't consensus between sources?

First of all i dont think we should take any genre-system from an external source, especially webshops such as beatport use a weird system that doesnt make much sense at all... regarding the genres i posted i dont see much need for discussion, because i think its pretty obvious what is meant by progressive, uplifting, psytrance, etc ... ?
However if any discussion occurs we should simply discuss it then, and for people that are new to the scene we could make a short description of all genres, so they know what these genres sound like

Btw im fully aware of the fact that u can't put every track 100% accurate into a genre-box, nevertheless i think are necessary to put some order into the mass of releases (atleast i dont see any other option..?).

This is something that bothers me in the last few weeks......
But in some recent releases I see some people shouting that the topic needs to be moved to 'Other EDM releases'

I don't know how people are thinking atm, but who decides if a track is trance or not?

I'ts always a difficult decision when discussing whether or not something is trance or nontrance, and it's getting increasingly difficult as the genre progresses and evolves. To answer your question; well, ultimately it are the mods who decide this. But there's always room for constructive discussion and I want to encourage you (and everyone else) to report a post which is posted in the wrong subforum or if in doubt.

I believe both sections work out very well! We currently limit the non trance to only the former trance artists, which is great otherwise TF would be spammend with non trance EDM crap. Please let's not have the discussion about what is trance over and over cause nobody can answer. If the users believe mods doing a bad job moving thread to the right section we could add smth like a poll to threads asking to the people what they think, but it will surely lead to heated discussions between members, over and over, which wont help the positive vibe here. All in short: let the mods continue what they have proven to do very well over the past months (and years).

The mods are doing a great job! Period...
But when I look into the AvB ft Rayel - Eiphoria thread for example how many people are arguing about wether it needs to be moved or not....

Really ?? I took a look at other EDM Section, its pretty much the same nonsense as in beatport progressive house section, where you have bigroomers and progressive tunes being treated like its the same music

And in the trance section plenty of stuff thats obviously non-trance like the new andrew rayel track can be posted and don't even get removed... or is in your opinion the new rayel track so much like the new airwave track that it should belong into the same section ??

For many he's trance 2.0, or 3.0 whatever. Still trance for many.

Come on "Trance whatever.0" is just some useless term developed by trance-producers who jumped on the bandwagon of commercial-edm to hide the fact they don't make trance music anymore.

    So it works

Because it's an easy crapfilter for you. Imagine you'd have to check all that so called crap

Actually not, i like the progressive stuff but not the bigroomers. Furthermore you have both kind of tracks in the trance section aswell, so overall its quite a mess.
