Showing favorite tracks per month/genre using tag(s)

    Hey everyone,

So soon the favorite track of 2013 voting is coming up and again I have really no idea what to vote for as so many tracks were released.

We also sometimes have the discussion that not all music these days is crap, you just need to search better ...
Now Im sure we are all busy and don't have the time to listen to all the upcoming releases which are being posted so I would like to introduce using specific tags all together.

    Example tags:
    - Favorite track 2013
    - Favorite November 2013 (adding all the months, not just November )
    - Favorite2013 progressive
    - Favorite2013 uplifting
    - Favorite2013 psytrane
    - Favorite2013 balaeric
    - Favorite2013 techtrance
    etc etc.

As test I have added a few of these tags in this post, check them out and click on them to see a few test results and how it could work (example tags are listed above this thread title).

If we would all add these tags in our favorite releases than we would help eachother out a lot and it would be much easier and faster to filter on the best releases out there. Making it possible to see all favorite releases per year, per month and per genre. More tags could be added of course.

What ya think? Give it a try? If yes should we add extra tags? Which ones?

    very nice @Puppetmaster badass likes!

the only thing i would add is to sticky thread also and as part of the rules let users know they can use this function when they're voting...

To sticky this thread in the upcoming releases section you mean? I doubt people are actually reading those stickies but yeah that's possible. Showing the tags cloud below the logo somewhere would also be an option. Making it easier to find and use the tags.

The thread tags themselves are currently shown above the main post as well, thats a location which nobody looks at I think. In the old days they were shown below the posts, lets say on the spot where currently the thanks are shown, that spot is much better and I I guess it would stimulate members more to use the tags if they were shown there instead ( @Wesley ?).

I like this proposal and i would like to make a counter-proposal, have a permanent section on forum somewhere with top 10 of each month. Voting on it can be very easy, after month ends, we take around 20-30 releases this month which got any positive attention at all and set them up for a vote (should be private vote so results can be only revealed in the end, i dont know if its possible) (i am sure a selection of mods with different taste can handle this task, or even volunteers from regular users) Top 10 gets posted. So at the end of year we have BEst of each month in front of us with much easier task in selecting the real gems from those.
2016 TOP 5 (updated in July)
    1. Aymon - Sopor
    2. Avenue One feat. Fenja - Call of Summer (Suncatcher Remix)
    3. M.I.K.E. Push - Estivate
    4. The Noble Six - Oddworld
    5. Aurosonic - They Wait For Us (Progressive Remix)

If we would add these tags ourselves (as non mods) than I think this is possible yes. In such case we don't even need a mod to create such a top xx list per month/year. As then we could just open the tags and copy/paste the titles. Make a poll with those titles and you're done.

It all starts with adding these tags though.

Don't agree with tep's proposition, but Puppetmaster's one is better. I think we should only vote at the end of the year. What if a majority of people vote for tracks I don't like? What kind of voting could that be, that would only limit the voting. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

And I think it would be nice to have a voting like ASOT's Tune Of The Year voting, when we search for tracks and click on them and submit them. That is a lot of work, but I think we could all help to make that right. I know it is kind of late, but it could be done for next year at least. Every track which has a thread here could be entered in some sort of a database, and then we could choose our favourites from that database. It could be easier for admins when it comes to counting the votes, and for voters, of course. What do you think about that?

To explain myself further, entering the tracks into a database would be easier with the tags, too. We click on tag, for example, "January 2014", and it shows all the releases from January. Then it would be just copy/paste.

I agree. I also think that the novelty of voting on a monthly basis would wear off, and either no one would vote at at all or a very limited number would.

Exactly my goal indeed. This wasn't meant for the 2013 voting, as it will be too late to add all the tags indeed. With future threads we could use the tags though.

Whenever we hear a great track we can add the right tag(s) so at the end of the month/year it's easy to find all those member favorites by simply clicking on the tag you like to see.

Important is that we all use the same tag description, else you won't find all the threads back.

Yes, this is all good in long-term. But the most of tracks for each month could be found in threads "Release Dates of December 2013" (and any other month), I think that also helps a lot. I think that if you combine mine proposition to make the voting more easier and simpler with Puppetmaster's tagging idea and the "Release Dates of ..." threads, it would only stimulate the members to vote, and not to skip on voting. As you have seen, the number of people who are voting is going down, in comparison to 2008 (when there were 243 voters, I think), and in the following years, the numbers only decreased.

And maybe, we could add a few more categories, like:
-Best DJ set of the year.
    -Favourite producer of the year.
    -Best festival of the year.
    -Favourite radio show etc.

    What do you think?

I know that it is a lot of a hard work, but I am here to help if needed, such as a lot of regulars from this forum.

Yep, I'm pro tagging or db'ing.

Not sure if I would use it, but it will be useful for others so: yes
