Different approaches to podcasts? Which ones are you listening to?

Been trying to listen to more of a variety of podcasts recently. They seem the best way to hear the most up to date music and samples, but I have mixed feelings about the approaches taken by artists.

The one I consistently listen is Global Trance Grooves by John 00 Flemming. For a listening experience, I find it incredible...some of the best feelings I get from modern Trance is the journey he clearly plans and focuses on, with a healthy slot allocated to guests so they can attempt the same approach.

The last few weeks i've been listening to Solaris by Solarstone. I find he takes an opposite approach to John in all the wrong ways. The track selection is good, with exclusives and diversity, but there is so much talking and interruption between track that it completely kills the flow of the mix, with track length being much shorter too. It is still a very popular podcast, but I feel the beauty of a mix is lost and it comes all about showcasing rather than experience. Does anyone else feel like this?

Other ones I've given a try are Mark Sherry's 'Outburst' podcast and Simon Templars 'Elements of Trance', both of which showcase a range of different styles which I often look for nowadays...I think these two are quite solid.

What are your opinions on what makes a good Podcast and which ones are you listen to regularly?

I think variety is key, if you play the same stuff over and over again it gets boring. That's what I like about podcasts like Cycles Radio with Max Graham who dips in and out of genres like Deep House, Prog House, Trance and Techno. Vice versa with Solaris International. Open Up with Simon Patterson is also like this too.

A good flow is also key, neat transitions, mixing in key and bpms. I mean you'll have to change key eventually but not too many key changes and pitch adjustments make it sound really nice.

For yourself as a music listener you should listen to different genre podcasts every day to make everything sound fresh to your ears.

In contrast, I had a listen to Activa's podcast when I got up this morning. It had no talking and no real variety... the tracks were good, but It didnt hold my interest much. I like some commentary from the artist. It's nice to hear his opinion on the tracks and reminders of what we've heard. Rich unfortunately takes it too far for me on Solaris which is why I cant listen to it.

I love Solaris International. I think it's nice to listen to it as a radioshow - with some commentary by the DJ, some jokes by Rich and updates about his tours. I find it better than listening to one hour non stop music with no interaction from the DJ. I like that it gives me this 'radio' kind of feeling and with the music that I find similar to my taste. That being said it is also a reason why I listen only to Solaris International
If you are free in your dreams, then why don't you go to places you always wanted to go?

Yh, his is more a radioshow than a mix podcast. If I got into my car and this was what played on the radio I would be so happy. Context I guess!

I listen to a lot of Podcasts, generally ones by DJ's & labels I'm liking. I like podcasts where there are lot's of exclusives too. it's a great way to find tracks as well as looking as labels and I could listen to tracks on repeat there.

I don't mind talking either. I sued to like the way Karanda did it when they were doing them, they would say what the tracks played were every 2 or 3 tracks down the line and add a bit of humour into it, and occasional spam

One thing that bothers me id ID's,, but I'm sure that's for obvious reasons and if I ever did a show I probably would include them as well
    Exciting Releases:
    Karanda - Supreme
Rodrigo Deem - Divo / Totem
    Codeko - Crusader
    Las Salinas - Winston
Solis & Sean Truby - Armadillo
    Slim Colt - Livi
    Signal Space - Sharik

I would have to say my favourite at the moment is Tucandeo - In Sessions.

It is a 2 hour musical journey full of dark, moody and atmospheric sounds. They always set a great tone and flow and there is minimal commentary.

I have come across a lot of interesting music and artists like Andromehda through it. They always have some really interesting bootlegs like the one below which I would never have come across.

    For anyone interested

in my case: the less talking the better. I rather listen to good transition than DJ talking about his gigs (Schulz bragging about his scream bus tour must be the most annoying thin ever lol) and other stuff
My fav is Gai Barone - Patterns (best weekly show imo), Basil's Momentum, Mistique Music Showcase + bunch of other shows on di.fm prog channel and @ frisky
Progged Numix - tune in every 4th Thursday of the month 8 pm CET - DI.FM Progressive Channel https://www.facebook.com/ProggedNumix https://hearthis.at/proggednumix/
